Join me for a flexibility session that will help you work your way to the splits, often regarded as the ultimate feat of flexibility. This routine is a quick 7 minute session but please note that building flexibility takes time and patience (esp. as we tend to stiffen with age 😉) Regularly following a sequence like this though will help you loosen tight hamstrings and open up your hips so that you can eventually master the pose on the mat and standing. Incorporate some of these moves into a personalized morning or evening stretch, or after a strength training workout. Remember, progress not perfection is the goal (you v. you). Hope you enjoy! 👍

✦Format: : 30 sec stretch, 5 sec rest/transition
✦Equipment: mat optional, pillows or chair optional
✦Exercises include: leg swings, glute kicks, down dog hip opener, runner's lunge, pigeon w/ quad stretch, hamstring stretch or pyramid pose, floor splits, standing splits
✷Modifications: extend the time to stretch hamstrings, glutes and hips as needed. The timer is only a guideline. You may need more than 30 seconds to feel the release of the muscles. Hamstrings stretches can be done on an elevated surface such as a chair. If you are working toward the splits, place pillows under your legs for support if required (you might even consider stretching on a softer surface like your bed, space permitting). NEVER force a pose, and back off a movement if you feel any pain.

✦Timestamps
✦Workout begins: 00:48
✦Floor Splits: 06:03
✦Standing Splits: 07:14

Again, be patient with yourself, esp. if you are a beginner (for reference, before last year, I hadn't attempted the splits in almost 30 years and it wasn't easy).
Moreover, as you continue on your fitness journey, please share your progress in the comments below and remember to feel proud of the work your body and mind have accomplished through the power of movement.
Have a wonderful weekend, keep smiling and stay awesome! 😎
