I’m pretty sure the reason I can’t do it is because it hurts

You will injure your body if you don't work at it slowly and incorporate other stretches. If you were to push past the point of pain, like is someone pushes you deeper into the splits, you can cause tearing and other injuries to your muscles, tissues, joints and hamstring.

So it's not all mind, it's mostly body

I learned to do the split and it took me about 3/4 months to achieve a full split! A very slow process that makes you patient and trust your body. Also, I got to know later that a lot of our stress is also stored in the pelvic area! No wonder why I do a split everyday and feel better.

I believed him and now I'm on crutches!

I must say he is wrong on this one. The reason is, that if you are lifting only one leg sideways, you can tilt your hips practically doubling your range of motion

Nah sorry Huberman I gotta disagree with you on that one. While your brain definitely plays a part most people are physically not capable of doing the splits

I am 63 years old & do the splits every day. I was a gymnast until age 15.

Doing a 90 degree individually is not the same as doing a 180. If it was purely neurological the progress of developing a split would be far faster and compounding when it more mirrors the results of consistent strength training

This comment section shows how ignorant and how poor most people's listening skills are. Dr. Huberman said that a lot of - not all of - what goes into being able to make splits is neurological, which is unanimously true.

If you took time to do research about the subject instead of branching your opinion from solely your subjective reality and experience, you'd know that.

Told myself that too till I tore a hamstring.

It’s not in your head.

Ok so how do i turn off the neural mechanism?

Guys, he is probably talking about splits after training for some time. Of course you cannot do it immediately

He just reminded me I'm not flexible anymore. Kneeling or sitting Indian style is now painful.

How can he compare the splits to a 90 degree angle?

That’s okay, Andrew. I’d only need you to put the one leg up at a 90 degree angle.

Y he is wearing headphones when he is talking to the person in front of him

I call bullshit on this. I cant do the splits because I'm going to tear my groin, however, I get closer and closer with less and less pain the more i train it. Not for nuerological reasons, but because the muscles are being used more. Making it really hard to trust other things you say

Only way to do it is when the brain 🧠 excretes adrenaline, the aftermath would be horrendous. Speak to a physiotherapist

Flexibility is important It slows aging, but also its hot as f

If you hold a stretch for 60 seconds then your central nervous system stops holding onto the muscle....allowing you to fully stretch the muscle....this only works after a 60 seconds stretch 😊
