How Much It Costs To Feed 8 People For 1 Day #hosting #foodcost #cookingathome #sahm #largefamily

I normally only cook like 3-4 times a week and that’s enough for us. We always have left overs so it transfers over to next days lunch and then I’ll just make breakfasts and we might get takeout once.
So going from that to make 3 huge meals a day was quite the challenge 😅 it was super fun tho and doesn’t happen often so I can get back to smaller portions after this week :)

Mama, you are doing a great job taking care of your family!! Just a tip from a southern woman who has broken many a glass jar making sweet tea… if you pour a couple inches worth of cool water in bottom of jar then pour in hot juice, you will be fine, every time. I learned that from my granny years ago and have never had an issue since! I hope this helps!! Keep up the great work!

$96 for a day🫣 we are feeding 6 and running about $125 for a week. Just in case anyone is scared about feeding a big family- it does NOT have to be this expensive to be healthy😅

Grate the veg. Get the kids involved in growing some vegetables. My son refused to eat any veg. 'He' grew broccoli and yellow beans. I ostentatiously froze a small bag and he ate 'his' vegetables for years! I changed the name of Brussel Sprouts to fairy cabbages and all 3 kids ate them! Grate carrots and apples, mix into a salad, the apple makes it more acceptable. 😅

Always put a metal spoon into a glass jar when you are pouring a hot liquid into such a vessel. The spoon will be first to absorb the high heat of the liquid before the jar will preventing it from cracking and breaking it on you.

I'm sorry, did i hear that right? $96 for "the day"?

I know its 8 people, but I'm feeding 6 and can't imagine spending that much. 😮

Thats nearly $3k per month.

Most months we dont even make that much. 😲

My niece was a picky eater... Nephews weren't far behind her in that, I was the first person that could get her to eat something besides chicken nuggets and Mac & cheese... Including veggies... The secret is trying out different types of intense flavors, kids brains are still developing, plain veggies are boring, so experimenting with different spice mixtures and sauces, then letting them know they just have to try it, but don't have to finish it if they don't like it, works.

For my niece, she loved sweet & spicy sauces for her nuggets, so I made a sauce for veggies that used sweet chili sauce, & some extra chili garlic oil, stir fried the veggies in it with a lil bit of soy sauce added as well... Made a similar sauce for some chicken thighs (she refused to eat bone in chicken at that time)

Told her she just had to try it, and if she didn't like them, I'd make her chicken nuggets, then asked her "did you want to try two bites each, or 3?"

Allowing kids to think they're choosing how many bites to try, helps bypass those who always defy what you ask nomatter what it is, it gives them a feeling of control that helps them be more open to new experiences, and the biggest secret, is being trustworthy! If they try it, decide they don't like it, DONT GET MAD, stay true to your word and make them those chicken nuggets! They need to know they can trust your words, and you won't get angry at them or frustrated when they don't like something!

Obviously this is trickier the more kids you're caring for at a time, the most I've had to deal with at one time, is 6, and over the decades, this tactic has worked with thousands of different kids (I work in childcare now after starting with my nephews and nieces, I specialize in helping families with kids who struggle with different behavioural issues, mostly defiance disorders) and for some kids it can be a long process, it also requires the parents to be on the same page at home!

Just don't put all your eggs in one basket so to speak, with a family that size, it might be best to start with a small side till you find something that everyone can like... Plus the older the kids are before starting this, the longer it can take to get the process started, I hope my experience can be helpful for you and your family <3

We call it Agua Fresca in Spanish (fresh water). And you don't have to boil it. Blend any fruit - watermelon, cantaloupe, pineapple, strawberry are common ones. Blend your fruit with some water, pour into pitcher and add water and if you want sugar/sweetner to taste. If the fruit is flavorful, you can add more water, so taste as you make it because you just don't want to water it down so much that you lose the fruits' flavor. Enjoy!

Jessica Seinfeld has a cookbook (from about 15 years ago, but VERY relevant) about how to incorporate veggies into your children's food without them knowing it. VERY helpful.

Everything looked delicious! I love the kitchen and how clean you are!
I was that way. Now I am on oxygen, have drop foot and am in remission from stage 4 lung cancer. I am blessed to still be here though! So now my husband and one of my adult sons cook and clean. I would have thought my husband would have been better at keeping the house clean as he was kind of a jerk about keeping the house clean. He told me once that he had never seen anyone so busy and never get anything done. There was never any dust, my floors were always spotless as was my bathrooms and kitchen. I never really sat and watched TV. I was always busy. I liked being busy. I always had a meal cooked when he got home even when I worked. He always had shirts that were ironed and clean clothes. I kept everything up except when we lived in a subdivision. I could not use a push mower. So he cut the grass and changed the oils of the cars.!I did everything else. He would come in from work and eat, watch TV and go to bed. Everyday!! On weekends he would drink and lay on the couch. So now I can’t do anything I would have thought he would keep the house clean. Boy was I wrong!
But he does take care of me. Taking me to doctors, getting my medications, going to the stores for what we need and things. I just wish he was better at cleaning house. I love a spotless house!!
Keep doing what you are doing! Looks like you are a good mom and wife!

Being a mother is full time non-stop, not only that you deal and teach adults and children your wisdom but also provide them the nourishment they need and making sure they become to be the best at what they can be, and so many other equally important things. Plus makes you much wiser along the way.

Never give up on feeding your kids veggies! This is the time we can shape their future including their eating habits. I turned picky eaters into veggies lovers. My little ones eat cooked, raw veggies and they love it now.

Let me first say that I don't judge. You do what works for you. I am the mom of 10. I never understand when people say that their children don't eat vegetables because I would love to know when they stopped. The first food that most children are human beings eat are vegetables in a mashed form. I guess what I want to know is when and how did they transition to not doing so. My children's diets mostly consist of vegetables and healthy snacks I'm just curious?
