Man so many martial artists lock themselves behind the idea that they "dont need to lift weights because that will make them slower" and thats so stupid, 50% of your training should be strength and conditioning. Its just an excuse to be lazy but feel proud of themselves after going to two classes a week, missing out on something so important which is the reason they are behind their fellow fighters.

lifting weights makes you faster. Resistance is key. When your body gets used to high resistance, it is faster than usual when you have less resistance. That's why the heavier you lift, the slower you get.

I actually started lifting weights a little while ago and here are the most effective aspects of training for martial arts:
Strength Training
Plyometrics
( I say that because Plyometrics improves your RFD ( Rate of Force Development ) but it can only be as strong as your physical strength, so you have to train that too )
Calisthenics: works using body weight and allows for quicker punches and kicks
Cardio: both aerobic cardio ( low-mid intensity, long duration ) and anaerobic cardio ( high intensity, short duration, with usually low-intensity moving as rest ) are functional for combat sports due to needing to be constantly active but needing quick bursts of energy to lunge forward

Also some exercises actually make you faster. While you're practicing martial arts, you can do it weighted. Which will make your punches and kicks faster and stronger.

I do shadow boxing with 3kg dumbbell and I took HUGE advantage of it and I do boxing as fast as ghost (I'm a self taught boxer and taekwondo) (liking all my reply even if they insult me lol)

Check ✔️ ✅️, not too heavy though, obviously. I like to just use my body weight as resistance, chin ups, jumping push ups, push up and clap sort of thing. Seems to just work for me. Few sets thrown in there as well for good measure though.

No one is more dangerous than a lean and flexible strongman/bodybuilder who knows wrestling and muay thai

As someone who did bodybuilding before i started martial arts, i can say 100% that it is impossible to become too big by accident

Weights help make your arms because your arms is the one that is handling the pain, no pain = no gain is a great way to explain it because enduring pain just makes you stronger 💪

Include forearm workouts to your routine, is extremely important for the blocks and to punch with less risk of injury since a strong forearm will help maintaining your wrist in place
