Yes it stunted her growth. Same thing with gymnastics.

Also a reminder that 6 years is a huge freaking jump when you're a kid.

Yes her growth was stunned, judging from the size of the plates vs body height... She under 5 feet.

I’m in powerlifting and my coach told us why it’s a myth. Lifting does not stunt your growth, it’s actually kind of the opposite. So many good powerlifters are small because with smaller body features they have less distance to move the weight. So a lot of the best lifters you see are small, but it doesn’t mean lifting stunts your growth.

My understanding about the negative high risk for kids and lifting was never about stunting growth . With a R.N./fitness instructor data base, I’ve learned the Risk with lifting is to the joints, ligaments and their proper development.

Ok scientific answer - Heavy weight workouts CAN negatively impact physical development in minors, which is why every sport science paper on this recommends NOT doing max strength training before you are 18. But that is specificly for MAX STRENGTH training as in 100-110% of your maximum lifting capacity.
As we can clearly see in the clip this girl is NOT ANYWHERE near her max lifting capacity and certainly not beyond it. NO ONE claims that lifting weights will impact your development negatively, actually quirte the opposite, strength training with up to 70% 1rm is actually RECOMMENDED as it does increase your bone density and muscles for injury prevention and general health.
So basicly - congrats to defeating a straw man

From my understanding its not as much about stunting their growth it's more because their bones are still forming and their growth plates aren't fused yet which can lead to children getting injured easier.

My doctor always said never train with anything than your body weight until you’re atleast 16 cuz she had so many patients get problems from that..

Answer: NO.

For those who want the science behind it:

Evidence shows that physical activity-associated loading during skeletal growth (adolescence) and after skeletal growth (early adulthood) elevates peak bone mass and is positively associated with adult bone mass in later life.

In fact, elite adolescent weightlifters have been found to possess levels of bone mineralization that far exceed values found un untrained adults.

I'm not sure these two girls are the same person, but I can clearly see that the 1st person is pre-adolescent. It's safe for her to engage in resistance training; however, in my experience, that amount of load would be unnecessary for someone who isn't fully developed. We need to remember that children are *not* small adults and should be trained appropriately.

That's all!
