Euro NCAP Crash Test of Aixam Crossover GTR 2016

Euro NCAP has tested the Aixam Crossover GTR in front and side impact at 50km/h to get a picture of the safety level of this heavy quadricycle. The vehicle performed very poorly and showed serious risks of life threatening injuries.

To all the people dissing this. These microcars or "quadricycles" aren't designed to pass ncap (no requirement).
They don't have airbags as they are built to a weight limit of 400kg to fit into the category of microcar.
These are city cars, not track day monsters or motorway mile-munchers.

I'm not surprised. These are cars that in many EU countries can be driven from the age of 15 without a driving license, but there are restrictions, such as speed, engine size and weight.

The weight limit and engine size poses a number of problems.

1 In order for the car to weigh as little as possible, you have to use expensive materials such as aluminum and fiberglass, this means that the price goes up, which means that they are saving on other things such as safety.

2 to build in safefty, means that the car will weigh more.

3 as the engine power is limited, extra weight will mean a large loss for the car's performance.

In other words, it would be much better to only have speed limits and not focus so much on the car's weight and engine size. This would make it much easier to manufacture a safer car, but also make the car much cheaper, probably even benefit the environment as more environmentally friendly materials could have been chosen and that electricity operation would have been easier to apply.

you people should stop complaining about this car. in my country you can drive this car as soon as you pass 15 years mark. at the same age you can drive a low-powered motorcycle (50cm3) So, i think that this car is MUCH safer than a regular motorcycle. you have 4 wheels, and even a seatbelt, compared to what? motorcycle is equal to 0 stars rating. its just my opinion and ofc sorry for mistakes, just learning english

What's safer, a 15yo in this or on a 50cc scooter or trail bike.

If it was my kid and he didn't give me the choice, I'd prefer this as I know what I did on a trail bike at 15yo and I don't think he'd survive.

They're every where in France, and sound like they're powered by a Briggs and statton or Honda stationary engine.

There isn’y airbag because this car is built to be driven with the B1 license, so for 16 years old. An airbag could make bigger damages than airbag free.

This car is sold in France for people who dont have driving licence. It's made in France and available at 15 600 € without options

Its supposed to be a safer alternative to a moped. In Germany, you're allowed to drive these at 15, and i'd rather drive around in this, than a moped
