How Long to Get From 25% to 15% Body Fat? (Reality Check)

About the video:
Getting lean almost always takes much longer than people plan for. If someone says they have 20 pounds to lose to get visible abs, the reality is, they typically have 30 - 40 pounds. Most people greatly underestimate how much body fat they have while overestimating their amount of lean muscle mass. This leads to setting the wrong goal weight during their fat loss phase, eventually ending up disappointed when they realize they're nowhere near their goal.

In this video, I discuss the truth about getting lean and how long it takes to see results. I also go over the main reasons why it takes so long to reach a low body fat percentage, such as 12% body fat or 15% body fat. I wish I had known about this on my fitness journey when I first started at 200 lbs and went as low as 154 lbs. Initially, I thought I had only 25 lbs to lose, only to realize once I got there that I was just halfway to my goal. I hope this information and sharing my experience helps you on your journey to a lean physique!

People need to hear this information 100%. I was 220 lbs (5 months ago) perpetually bulked and i lost 40 pounds and realized that I was still fairly overweight. Now my goal weight is 160 (5 11 height) before I start bulking again. I had no idea, I thought I was maybe 20-30lbs overweight. Keep up the awesome work and thanks!

I lost 20 kg over three years from 85 to 65, dripped to 63 before i started calisthenics since end of April. I have stable diet, added protein supplement to it, and hit 65 back this week. Am 35 now, i couldn't do pushups for over 15 years. After the weeks of exercise and overloading i can do 3 sets of 5. It's never too late to start. Never be ashamed of getting better. Much love!

All of my friends are obese and when they see me at 5'11" 165lb they make comments about how small I am. Interesting, because I never talk about their weight....ever.

lol been dieting for 6 months the transformation is crazy but abs no were to be seen. I mean you see faint abs but when you tryna get into shape shape you realize how much fat covers them. Most people would say I’m 20% so I know I’m actually 25% and that’s after losing 25 pounds but hey it is what it is, after you go through the rough stretch of the diet, the gains everyday become more and more satisfying and what’s more fun than to know IT'S GONE FOREVER, cuz I ain’t planning on being obese again anymore. This weight loss been so different than the past I’m literally losing weight with joy cuz it’s so balanced. Stay strong my fellow humans you got this 🙏❤️💪🏾

Mario’s back 👏🏾 !!!! It took me a year to get back down to about 12% I think for some people bulking is a bad idea I’ve been training for 9 yrs consistently and for me I just plan to stay at about maintenance and just build slowly from there. That was always my goal but moved away from it. The first few yrs of my training I thought I knew my body food and training but it actually took me almost 10yrs to internalise all these scientific principles.
Thanks for the motivation Mario! ✌🏾

Bro thank you so much. This was my first year as a teacher while also finishing up my last year of college and getting engaged. I’ve let all those things put on some weight. My plan this summer is to get back in shape and I really needed this 👍

Great video. I love this idea about fat loss being a skillset to hone, not something you need to be perfect at all the time (and right from the beginning of your journey). It’s a process!

I've been consistently training for two years. Was 180lb at 5'11". I made the mistake of going into an immediate fat loss phase while lifting for the first 9 months. I ended that 9 month cut at 148lb and still wasn't as lean as I wanted to be. I had no idea that I had THAT much fat. So I lifted heavy, progressive overload and stayed in a surplus for the next year. Now I'm 3 months into a cut and am leaner than I've ever been while weighing 10lbs more than at the end my first diet. It takes some serious time and effort to build muscle. And now it'll only get harder! HAha. Thanks for the inspiration, Mario.

Good man Mario. You’re the only guy I watch on YouTube. Been following your advise and I’m down to 18% from 25% body fat. Iv even got good at estimating my calorie intake and not so heavily relying on myfitpal. Thank you
