First time skiing, could not keep from falling. Gave up and headed to the lodge. Got something to drink and watched the kids on the bunny slope, always falling, but laughing and having a good time. Went back to the bunny hill, kept falling, but had a good time. Next time skiing, stayed upright most of the time. Keep a positive attitude, and most of all: have fun!

In my family of 6, we learnt to ski as soon as we could walk. My parents were in the post-war ski crowd in the Sierras. So we learnt the Arlberg method. (I don't think they have specific styles anymore, do they?) Now I have not been on the slopes in quite some time. I do hope to get back on, before long.
I appreciate greatly that you address details. That is what skiing involves, but then many sports do.

I have sent a link to one of your lessons to a friend. He watched his wife suffer instead of teaching her how to get up after a fall. He says he taught skiing in Colorado, but he has not taught his family how to use their ski pole straps. Or how to get up. You see why I like details?

So! Thank you for good, thorough lessons that I can even share with friends.

A great video- I leave in a couple of days for my first skiing holiday. One of the things I'm nervous about is the lift but this makes it look really simple. I'll be watching a few more times before I go!

I wish we had videos like this when I was learning how to ski in the early 90s. I learned on a slope in Germany that had only T bars and rope tows. For some odd reason I thought unloading from the chairlift would be a breeze. Nope. Talk about dirty looks, especially when the lift attendant picked me up!
I highly, highly recommend that beginners and intermediates take lessons. It's worth the investment. You'll enjoy the sport so much more when you're not falling on your butt every 10 feet. I even took lessons on how to properly use my new shaped skis and loved them.

Brings back awesome memories of being a kid and going skiing with the family. Quit going around age 14 and haven’t been back. Boy were those some fun times

Hope this works! The past few times I tried skiing, I always fall then I get off the chair lift. Thanks for the tips!

I start skiing at 20 and drop it very quickly…now i restart at 43 because of my son. I will have no choice to be a better student as he loves it and my husband start skiing as a toddler. My son of 8 years old are doing the blue hills after one winter of practice and I ‘m still at the school practice lane. No hurry, i enjoy my day and the sunshine.

The first time I went skiing it was a school trip to Artisena in Italy. It was mostly chairlifts there and I had no problem with them, in fact I loved them. The only problem I had was with the poma tow, there were barely any and we only had to do it only once but I managed to mess up and fall (mainly because the amount of stress they put on keeping your skiis straight whilst your going up) which caused me to stay away from pomas. Problem is living in Scotland most of the resorts use pomas, there's very few chairlifts which is making me wary of going to the slopes since I'm worried to fall again. Trying to find videos like these to gain some confidence since my dad wants to take me up for some training on the slopes since he does snowboarding haha

I went skiing for first time ever this weekend. Even though I took a lesson your videos were also very helpful. Thank you.

You should definitely mention getting the occasional lesson from the Ski School so those first lift rides result in a magical experience guided by an instructor/ski life coach verses the friend who says he can ski and just takes to the top and leaves you to fend for yourself. super dangerous, not fun. I'll take the guided tour so I don't develop too many bad habits and get a perspective on what I should be working on so I can be a stronger skier/snow boarder.
