Is Exercise Good or Bad for Sleep? Facts Explained By Dr. Berg

In this video, Dr. Berg talks about exercise and sleep. If your heart is healthy and resilient and elastic, then the body can handle higher intensity type exercise (anaerobic and HIIT). HIIT stands for high-intensity interval training. However, if the heart is not recovering well, then walking is best and maybe even doing higher intensity exercise in the am.

Walking is a low-stress, higher oxygen type exercise (aerobic), and better for stress. If you had a history of being an athlete or doing a sport that involved lots of cardio, then your cells have developed a larger capacity to use energy and you will need to do regular exercise to release that energy.

I like to workout at night, it gets me tired and I sleep well and I find it more as I get older, when I was in my teens I excercised alot at night after my last meal, perhaps conditioning and I've Water fasted since my teens which included a last meal and workout. Anyway my point is it's helped me sleep feel better I wake up better if I excercised in the morning I'd be tired all day or be wired on caffeine etc

Dr. Berg, I truly appreciate all you do. Now I get up in the morning and can't wait to see your next video. Want you to know in the last 19 months I lost 150 pounds on a low carb diet. Since I been watching your videos for last three months you have opened my eyes, not only have you help me to continue loosing wait to get to my goal, but to do it much healthier. Your videos are so motivating, and your content is inspiring and priceless. I've been to so many doctors over the years because of being overweight and not one of them had a clue why I could not lose weight no matter what diet I was on. It wasn't until I took matters in my own hands and read the Atkins diet and for once I started losing weight on my own. But it wasn't until I started watching your videos and how you explain insulin resistance and adrenal fatigue then it all made sense. I can't thank you enough for all you have taught me the last three months. Your a blessing in the sky.

I normally work out in the morning ( stair master and weights on lower body) and on the days I work out I have a hard time falling asleep, I wake up at night and wake up early. Next day, I don’t work out and I sleep like a baby for 8+ hours. On the days I work out I get my heart rate high ( above or close to 190 and I’m 37) Is it even healthy? Should I stop doing it? I like how I feel during the day ( lots of energy, focus, I get a lot of stuff done) but I hate the night when it’s time to sleep.

I watched this video long ago then couldn't find it again.. i was an athlete when I was a teen.. now. Most of my body is fit and slim with enough muscle but my belly all round to my back like melted ice cream i tried everything works for short time but back again coz my main problem now i realize, it was never fatty liver, or slow metabolism or insulin resistant but insomnia and I almost always have a lot of energy so 4 hours i have enough sleep but i keep gaining belly fat and it is cortisol so i forced myself to stop coffee and pre-workout which is hard but still not enough i need good cardio in the morning to have good sleep at night.. thank you dr. Berg.

Finally, a good explanation of why I feel like I have to go outside and do a hard workout in the morning or I start to feel like I want to climb the walls after a few days if the weather has not been cooperating or I have an injury that needs some rest, and I have more trouble sleeping. It's my mitochondria. I like to balance the intense stuff with yoga and stretching, especially now that I am in my 50's and not 18 anymore, but I do crave my endorphin fix.

My mitachondria don't like exercise in evening. Can't sleep and I did such a slow workout. That's because I didn't train when I was younger. Finally, an answer at 3am... Sigh 🥺

I'll switch to mornings after Ramadhan is finished

I can’t sleep at all even if I workout in the morning. Takes me a few days to get regular sleep. Been a this way for years and years, I’m 35.
I can do cardio and low intensity stuff but any resistance training makes my adrenaline too high.
Anyone else??

I can’t sleep at night without taking melatonin but during the day I’m so tired. I used to work graveyard when I was 19 and I’m miserable during the day because the melatonin makes me feel groggy and it’s an endless cycle.

Can anyone tell me how to recover your central nervous system after an explosive/intense workout so you can recover quicker and is it okay to work out 5-6 days a week in a row

Every time I exercise I can't sleep regardless of the time of day. I normally start to experience a massive adrenaline rush during physical activity and that's my first sign of not being able to sleep. If I get an adrenaline rush I ain't going to bed that night regardless of the time of day. And then I wake up normally 3 hours into my sleep dripping sweat with racing thoughts. (Normally the songs that I play during my exercise are racing through my head, or it's something I said that day)
I've been trying to find a good balance but I can't seem to get it right. Now if I go outside just to rake leaves I won't be able to sleep that night. Seems like it's just getting worse.
