How to Slow Aging:

In this video, we’re going to talk about the health benefits of exercise that go beyond weight loss.

The amount of influence that exercise has on your weight is a lot smaller than you may think—at the very most, it’s only 15%. 85% has to do with what you eat and the frequency of your meals.

Benefits of exercise that don’t have anything to do with weight loss:

1. Prevents the loss of muscle mass
2. Builds antioxidant reserve
3. Stabilizes blood sugar
4. Increases oxygen (gives you energy)
5. Decreases stress
6. Enhances sleep
7. Increases flexibility
8. Strengthens the heart
9. Enhances cognitive function and mood

I started body building in March and the benefits I’ve noticed are: improved stamina, increased strength, and not getting winded easily! I always used to do cardio and never really noticed any changes. I love working out!

At age 75 in May 2018, I decided to use the weight set I bought 40 years ago, to start building muscle. (Are you done laughing?) I never got into any exercise plan that lasted more than two weeks. This time, I stuck with it for over 18 months. I weighed 200 + lbs when I started my exercise program over a year ago. Since then, I've lost over 30 lbs as a side effect of building muscle..

I was obese 3 years ago, then I started lifting weights, cutting refined carbs and doing portion control (I didn't know about Keto then 😔).

I've lost 50 pounds since June of 2016 and I've gained lots of muscle. I love feeling strong and the feeling of being more muscular. 🙂❤️

Dr Berg you’ve shed light to something I believed for years that exercise is for weight loss. Amazing, thank you so much 😊💖

I exercise mainly just for the mental benefits now. Nutrition/diet is the key to weight loss. I found exercise very difficult to lose weight but more importantly, to keep weight off.

All of this is oh so true since I have been guided down the Keto OMAD and prolonged fasting and HIT and cardio by your good self Dr Berg. I do long cycles too and from work and I have never felt as fit as well as mentally clear in all of my life. I have got a new me. One that I could never achieve through main stream guidance ever. To prove the point of the exercise not loosing weight for me, I have been cycling to work for so many years on a high carb diet and was actually gaining weight and getting less fit. Since on Keto and Omad, I am more fit and go for so much longer without ever getting thirsty or hungry. It is simply mind blowing the change in me. Once again Thank you so much Dr Berg for the new Me.

The resistance training I do, is about the muscle. The cardio I do... well, its just about that... the heart.

I've been experimenting with this, and when I exercise for even 15 minutes with dumbells, it drops my blood sugar from 100-105 down to 85-90. It's pretty amazing, to me.

I also take long walks (at least 30 minutes) with my dog on the trails behind my house. I need to test my blood sugar around that, but I bet it will drop just as much.

Full body workouts 3 times a week, 2-3 hours each. Never thought I'd love exercises so much!

I do 3 times a week because of the three key factors I've been taught on muscle building.
1) Training/exercise <-- 'tear' that fibre, then your body will want to recover even stronger so that next time you can take it a bit better (or so I've heard).
2) diet <-- the 'building blocks' to help build that muscle fibre.
3) Rest <-- the training and diet are not half as effective if you don't have proper rest. It's in a good rest when recovery takes place the best way. I'm not sure how that works on the molecular level, but it's got something to do with the brain. When sleeping/resting, your brain isn't distracted from outside factors and can focus better on the required process of recovery.
