What I find is it’s the most effective DARVO tool ever. As soon as you start to hold them accountable for something, they create a situation where you’re forced to give them the benefit of the doubt, by claiming to be unwell. If you don’t believe them, you feel guilty and cruel.

The worst part is when they fake illness to mask their abusive behaviour. 😢

Eye opening. Spending so much time helping people that can help themselves. It almost handicapped the helpers. By stopping our lives, work, friends, goals and ambition. I remember 11 years ago being in great shape, great job, global view of the world. To now a housewife, over weight, and can hardly see past the yard or next week. It really damaged my outlook. I have to start being selfish. Not a doormat.

The narc had an excuse every effing day why she couldn't follow through on any plans we had, whether it was cleaning the house, getting plants into the ground, doing the dishes that she had neglected from the previous night's meal, or going to special events that I'd bought tickets for. She'd slept poorly the night before, had leg cramps all night, had a headache/neck ache/back ache. One time she claimed to be suffering from very high blood pressure with headache, dizziness, nausea and weakness. I called an ambulance. EMTs said her bp was fine, and told her to see her primary MD. She said the EMT was wrong, she knew her own body. So I took her to the emergency room, walked her to admitting desk, then went to move my car. When I went back inside she was nowhere to be found, and hadn't checked in. I found her in the gift shop. I had to wait over an hour while she happily shopped for trinkets and candy. She said she felt better and didn't need to be seen in ER.😠

my mother lied to me when I was about to go no-contact. she said she had cancer and only had 6months to live. I knew she was lying, I went no contact anyway, these people deranged and evil.

For years there’s been a list of things that are wrong with her. But not really. She’s used all this to control me because I’m a supportive man. She’s destroyed me.

My mother in-law is always faking illness. Thank God she lives 9 hrs away. She was down for a visit and her blood sugar kept dropping down to a dangerous level. She eventually “fell” and demanded an ambulance. My then 19 yr old son (19 at the time) while she was in the hospital looked in her browsing history. He was always suspicious of her. She had been searching “how much metformin to take to make blood sugar drop way low”. We literally had to keep it to ourselves because my husband would have blew up on us. He’s a shameless mama’s boy. After that visit I started setting boundaries. No more visits here and my husband goes to see her. She’s been kicked out of my sister in-law’s house, is currently in the hospital. My husband said, “she’s got no place to go”. I said, “yes she does- a nursing facility there where her doctors are.”

I remember when we took a break from seeing my mother in law, just to have some space! She hoovered amd when she saw none of her attempts was working, she faked back pains and got herself off work for two weeks on bed rest. She was too eager to tell us so that we would go see her but we didn't as we were on to her! Within a few days of being at home, she decided to drive for 3 to 4hrs to go visit some relatives and of course ANNOUNCED that she was going to pass at our place! We told said to her: you should be on bed rest, you said your Dr stopped you from driving etc, as you have terrible back pains. She said: I feel much better, I will be driving slowly or something of that sort... we then replied: well that's on you but we will not be available.
She tried very hard to hoover and to break our no contact...
she imposes and never ever ask!!!

I have great authority of this little attention seeking trait. Went lot further than little head ache!

Hi Elizabeth, thanks for a very informative video. I have a question for you if I may.
Why does the law not make this form of abuse illegal? Why can we not seek justice from the law for undergoing such damaging narcissistic abuse?... These abusers should be sent to jail for what they do to us.

My ex tried to pull this on me to justify why he flaked on me on several occasions and his poor attitude towards me. I demanded medical paperwork and to see RX's otherwise I'd never talk to him again. I never spoke to him again.

My ex was a champion at this, then you’re the bad, awful one for not caring that they’re so poorly!! He would just drop everything, we’d only just had our daughter. I’d be up all through the night and all through the day. Burnout was looming, he didn’t give a crap.
