One time I sent a cold email to a manager, but it was not as cold cause I had a referral inside and I had mentioned my referral in the email.
Didn't get a reply.
I sent a reminder email to the manager.
Still didn't get a reply.
At that point I felt like I didn't wanna work for a person who couldn't be bothered to give me a reply even after going through the referral process.

If you’re going to go down this route, will you also please address the “when too much follow up is too much, ” aka “how to be get a restraining order put on you” side of the equation? Because some people don’t have boundaries and can ensure they won’t get hired b/c they listen to advice like this and start stalking people.

I’m a sound designer and when I cold email, I’m mostly reaching out to other creatives. In the email, I make it a point to focus on them for a majority of the email and mention projects they did that I love and then wrap it up succinctly with who I am and that I’d love to get a chance to collaborate. That way it sounds less desperate and more conversational. If a cold email reads like you only want something from them, it’s not going to feel personal and they will be less likely to take you seriously.

Yes. I agree. I was fortunate to learn that early. A followup in my case was not even an email but a call and then forwarding that same email to the same person. Usually when I reach the person by phone they tell me to have it in writing so they are now waiting for it and therefore more open to it.

Another hack is to send the email through an app that tracks if the person has seen (how many times) or opened any links/files in it, just to get some feedback of the progress.

That’s terrible advice and poor email management. It's like saying ‘call twice as I don't answer on the first call’. A person shouldn't be emailing twice for you to respond. What next - three emails then respond?
