I got back into weight lifting a couple years ago (in my mid-50s) and it's made HUGE difference. Yoga wasn't cutting it for my muscles and they needed more of a challenge as I was starting to lose muscle and strength. I only use dumbbells and do try to push myself to lift heavy (but slowly). I think listening to our bodies is the important thing in deciding what's right for us at our respective ages.

I think it depends on how much you run and the intensity - and your genetics. I’ve been running since I was 11, and my dad ran with me when he was my age ( 50s). I have no injuries and I always listen to my body. I do ALL of these things actually and look on average 15 years younger than other women my age. I eat VERY well, high protein and out of my garden. I love your content !

I am 53 years old live in NH on the Beach, My favorite exercise is going for long walks. usually when i head out for a walk I start on pavement and on the way back I walk in the sand by the water, and I walk backwards for short distances off and on to help work different muscles. I also love rebounding on my bellicone. And have to tell you I accomplished a 73 hour Fast this week! I have your Fast Like A Girl Book and always look forward to your videos! Thanks so much! I am 59 yr old life long athlete. When covid quarantine started I gave up ultra marathon training as races were cancelled. Since then I gave put serious work into bodybuilding. Last summer I had to give up body weight pull ups. A bout of mono last December, covid in February, 3 months away from home for my husband to get chemo/radiation in Spring. This summer has been clawing my way back to previous level of fitness and my body is simply not recovering like it did. I have pared weightlifting way down and working more of amount of time muscle is in tension rather than weights and rep count. I could no longer can run more than 3-4 miles and finally gave that up. A life long lover of super long slow mind clearing runs; that was deeply felt loss. I learned how to row recently and do that now, albeit 15-30 mins. I meditate every single morning for an hour around 5 AM. That has kept me sane and grateful. By backing off of the intense weight program, I have had the energy and time to get to know other people my age and older at the gym. It is all in perspective and I no longer moan about what I cant do. Anytime I go to criticize my body I now shut it down and thank it for putting up with 59 years of punishment. There are great alternatives and things to learn.

As much as I loved crossfit, my body was telling me it was stressed. Recovery was almost impossible. The work mindset was difficult to overcome and it took time, but my body is much happier with rucking with a weight vest and lifting dumbells old school.

69 and one year post spinal surgery and hip replacement, have now found my sweet spot of swimming in the sea 3x a week, reformer Pilates twice a week and walking 3 x a week. Going to walk the Great Glen Way in Scotland in October, upping the walking distances. SO excited and grateful to feel able to do this!

I have pernicious anemia at 47: can't feel my right leg well, breathless and dizzy ALL THE TIME, and the B12 injections are NOT curing me, have been getting sicker for 2 years, and now i say ENOUGH. I am NOT disabled, and I CAN climb up and down the mountain to a village for 4 hours, like I've wanted for 2 years, and tomorrow I'm doing it, NO MORE VICTIMHOOD. I must and WILL heal, mind first!

Rucking has been my go-to for several months! It's an underrated activity that gets my resistance and cardio training in one activity. Highly recommend.

Sprinting is my favorite thing now. I'm 73 yo. It is the one thing I get that endorphin high from. Keeping it to less than 100 meters, but as fast as I can go!! Dang 😭

I'm 51 and still run, but I do it differently. I run/walk now, varying the times I do each. I also no longer run on cement/pavement. That's made the difference for me. I run in parks on grass or dirt trails. I run next to sidewalks when I can (public property) and if there's a section where a sidewalk is the only option, I walk. Also walking/running on natural ground works all the little muscles in your ankles and keep you mobile! 🏃🏃🏃

Thank you Dr Mindy. I feel youve confirmed what my body has been telling me, as Ive made my way thru to Post Menopause. It takes me a long time to recover from strenuous exercise now that Im in my mid 50s. My favourite exercises now are hill walking, yoga, doing some band/weight resistance training and pool exercise classes are great for sore joints
