I bet you just saved some lives with this video, I had no idea about why it’s so crucial not to eat or drink before surgery. I have always followed recommendations never really asked why? Pretty scary. Thanks for the excellent info.

This post is excellent. I'm a nurse practitioner in wound care, I just saw a patient who was on Ozempic with side effects of stomach pain went into the ED sustained a perforated bowel and now she came out with a colostomy. It's so sad.

The Ozempic question needs to be on the intake form and also on the consent form long before the surgery. I was not aware of this delayed clearing of the GI tract

In my surgery center when people are on Ozempic and come for an endoscopy procedure, (EGD/Colonoscooy) we have seen time and time again, that their colon doesn’t get cleaned out even after taking the colon prep.

The fact that folk still trust anything big pharmaceutical makes is surprising-

Comes to my head Lisa Marie Presley. She lost like 60 pounds in a month and it’s been said she had a bariatric surgery a year before but the thing is that she lost that weight a month before dying and also had a face lift by the same time near the date of her death. They say something different but to me it's clear she had ozempic plus all of the surgeries. So sad.
A video about Berberine would be nice.

I have been on Mounjaro for 17 months and I lost 75 pounds and am just maintaining my weight now. It literally saved my life. By losing the weight, I found a cancerous tumor in my neck that became more pronounced with the weight loss. Thankfully, it was stage 1 and I had a successful resection without needing chemo or radiation. I have had 2 surgeries while on Mounjaro and had no issues with anesthesia or healing. It is very important to make sure you don’t take your medication over a week to 2 weeks prior to your surgery to make sure your stomach is empty and most definitely tell the anesthesiologist. For me, the benefits definitely outweighed the risks of taking this medication. I am so happy and healthy and got my life back. Just knowing all the information that Dr. Karam presents is very important. Being educated is half the battle. Do what’s best for you, but I am so thankful for this drug. Losing weight is not just about willpower and now the science backs it up ❤

Thank you for this! I have gastroparesis (for those that don’t know, it’s similar to what Ozempic does to the stomach but had this my whole life…and no, I wouldn’t wish this disease on anyone. I have 24/7 nausea that I take medication to control and have limited things I can eat). Now I know why when I went in for my colonoscopy, my colon wasn’t clear and I had to do another full ‘jug.’ I also often have complications after surgery (I’ve only had surgery twice…medical) and now understand what is going on. Interestingly, none of my Dr’s figured this out. It now makes sense!

It is frightening to me how many people will take an unproven drug without knowing about any of the long term consequences. In an age where we find out that even something as 'benign' as talc powder causes cancer.
The 'side effects' you mentioned certainly are not minor. The body is designed optimally - and messing with it, especially concerning digestion, is taking a multitude of unnecessary risks. Thank you for educating the masses. Blessings

I had a surgery 5 days ago and I’m on ozempic. They made me stop taking it 2 wks before surgery and stop eating 2 days before surgery. They said I have to wait a few weeks to start back on it again.

This video is packed with misinformation. Too many issues to list but making the assertion that Ozempic alone causes hypoglycemia is just ridiculous and shows that you do not understand the mechanism. Plastic surgeons should not give advice on topics in Internal Medicine. Aesthetics are always less important than intermediate metabolism.
