Ozempic and other GLP-1 agonists like Wegovy have exploded as “miracle weight loss drugs.” But as the research unfolds, we’re quickly discovering that these drugs are not risk free and come with some very concerning side effects.

In today’s episode of my series I’m calling Health Bites, I dive deep into the complexities of Ozempic. From nationwide shortages, high costs, the lack of insurance coverage, and severe, somewhat common, side effects, I explore the hurdles of Ozempic and question if it's truly a sustainable solution to our growing obesity crisis.

This episode is brought to you by Mitopure and Cozy Earth.

One year ago I began my journey of reducing sugar and exercising intermittent fasting. I’ve lost 70 pounds with only about ten to go. I feel amazing. It wasn’t easy, but it was absolutely worth it. Your videos helped me a lot to understand how things worked and why it was so important to stay on track. Thank you. ❤

I am an RN and work in an Endoscopy center. We have seen many patients with gastroparesis even after short term use. This is such an excellent episode and thank you so much for all your knowledge. I have been following you for years😊

This is the first doctor I’ve seen talk about this drug who didn’t seem to have a bias. Good work!

I lost 45 pounds and 8 inches in my waistline by cleaning up my diet, reducing sugar to just fruit, and working out 4-5 days on weight training machines. This is the easiest thing I have ever done and the most fun I have ever had. I'm 70 years old and have the body of a woman more than half my age. I get a ton of attention and have more energy than I can ever remember having. No shots, no pills, no powered drinks, no calorie counting, no meetings, no BS. My diet is centered around protein and little if any processed foods. Sugar is addictive and makes me crazy for it so I avoid it most of the time. I have a lot of muscle now and muscle is sexy on everyone. It's amazing how much better I look and how much better I feel. Never going back to the old me.

Fruits and vegetables should be cheap and sugary foods like soda should be expensive. It’s expensive to eat healthy.

I’m a professor of nursing and my students asked what I thought of ozempic. I responded “I expect to see commercials in the future about class action lawsuits.”

Semiglutide has been used for over 20 years by Endorinolgist for obese patients long before Ozempic. Dr Louis J Arrone at Cornell Univ Hospital has used it succefully for 20 years to treat diabetes and obesity without issues.

Recently, I went in for a gynecological appointment and was discussing weight gain as a result of post menopause. I am probably about 40 pounds overweight, but I was astounded by the sales pitch, my physician gave me for Ozempic.

It was so disturbing to me that my physician would push a pharmaceutical on me over any other solution for weight loss. Trust me, I thought about it for a moment because it is tempting, but deep down, I knew something didn't smell right.

Prescriptions have messed me up so bad!! I've been prescribed drugs that I didn't know was addictive even though I took it as prescribed. I had to go through detox and withdrawals just to stop a few medications. I'll never take a pill again unless it's life saving. Diet is the only way to truly fix your health.

Hard to argue. That being said, it’s been a life-saver for my wife, who has mental health issues and could only keep junk food down. 1.5 years later, 55 lbs down, exercising daily. Still morbidly obese, but can now walk 10000 steps a day when she couldn’t do 500 2 years ago. Quality of life is much better. I’m comforted that she sees dr who prescribed it every 2 weeks, but I get that long term studies are absent and the jury is out. Quality of life beats quantity, and quality is back. Me, I cut out sugars a year ago, started walking every day, and am down 50 lbs without drugs. Life isn’t easy, but who said it would be?

I am so glad I use Dr. Mark’s way to stay in shape. Trust me, I still want sugar sometimes! Healthy organic food, weight lifting, spin bike. Low carb. Get in the sun! I have done this 9 years! I am 5’ 8” and 130 lbs. size 4. Also, getting ready for my 58th birthday. My whole extended family is obese. Sister died at 52 weighing 350 lbs😢
