My first foster was a baby girl removed from her home for neglect, she was 10 months old and weighed 11 pounds. She was diagnosed with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, couldn't walk till she was three, couldn't talk till about five. It took 8.5 years to adopt her, she's now 34....sitting next to me watching her favorite show, Dr. Pol. She has been such an amazing blessing to me.

Lol at the '2 kids' and show up with 3. I *never* understand how genders and ages can get so miscommunicated much less number of children :)

I grew up very close to an aunt who dedicated her life to kids in the foster system. She and her husband went on to add an additional 5 rooms on their home, so they could have even more space.

She ended up adopting 14 kids and must have taken in close to 100+. She was the most selfless human who ever played a role in my life. She passed away unexpectedly around 4 years ago, due to a brain aneurysm. So many kids, who are now adults, and have their own kids, showed up to show their respectas. Aunt Debbie lives on, in the hearts of SO many.

I just started watching your videos, I was in CPS when I was young (didn't have a good experience) but it brings me comfort knowing that you're making a child's time in the foster system easier. Thank you

As a retired police officer, taking children in the middle of the night to these families when most of the kids don't even come with a toothbrush was so heartbreaking. I used to keep 3 go bags in my patrol car that had hygiene products, pillows, blankets, a few toys ect to send with these kiddos. Then my squad of deputies would run to Walmart and buy out of their own pockets anything these kids needed.

Thank you to all the loving foster parents out there. Me and my boyfriend were in recovery from heroin addiction but both relapsed when our twins were 2...we had no one to take them while we went to detox and treatment. I told CPS what was going on... and that we needed help. I am so grateful that they ended up with an amazing family that took good care of them until we were better. They weren't judgemental... they were supportive of us and that really did help

I never had to enter the foster system. I was close but my amazing grandma came in like a superhero. She’s gone now but I’m so thankful for her and everything she had to do for us.

Wow I can’t believe how accurate this is. I am a former social worker and this is literally every child placement I have ever participated in. No information shared with the social worker who ends up doing the placement, half the time no clothes for the children, no access to emergency funding for the foster parent to get clothing..poor kids that get stuck in this mess. You seem like you are doing great and I hope one day I have a home so that I can do the same.

I went into emergency foster care 10 days before Christmas. It was scary as hell but I felt so safe and began to thrive after. I even ended up being adopted my short term foster carers. They didn’t want me to leave and neither did I tell my mum all the time she’s no good at short term when it comes to love, she’s just to lovely and so amazing at raising kids! It’s crazy how things can turn out!

When I was a foster parent, placements were always late on a Friday. I stopped asking for details. Our social worker was awesome and got us all of the information we needed asap. I have had placements late on a Friday to meet with an unknown worker called in by the police to meet at a parking lot that was halfway. We lived about an hour from the nearest town. We were certified for 6 kids and had 3 of our own. My husband and I agree that despite the stress, it was the best years of our lives. Also the most heartbreaking at times. Several of our foster kids remain in contact with us, now parents themselves and are doing amazing in their lives.

Been through this before, ended up taking in 4 kids, 2 sets of siblings. They had rough lives in the system all their lives. Two had serious health problems, one had a cliff lip the other challenged 11yrs old and didn't know how to read or write. With alot of sweat and tears we were able to find a doctor to preform the operation on her lip. She looks beautiful and I hope this gives her lots of self-esteem. Her and her brother went with their uncle and we kept the two boys. We've been working with one his reading and writing skills, he is doing great he can now read and write. The brothers were adopted last year after 4 years with us. One is currently in college and the other a junior in high school.

I’m an adult survivor of childhood abuse. I have been watching your videos and I love them, and you, for sharing tangible lessons for anyone else trying to make a positive change in a very hard situation. It’s very soothing/healing for me to know that there are carers who are committed to kindness, love, understanding and compassion.

I still remember my mom scrambling so our family friends kids wouldn't get put into foster care. There was an accident in the home and one of the younger children passed away so while they investigated they wanted to place out her remaining 5 children. My mom offered to take them the day of the accident and thankfully the police agreed. My mom started the day with 2 and ended with 7 but she'd do it again in a heartbeat. It was a busy house for awhile but all the kids were able to go home in the end.

My parents are foster parents and we taken in emergency placements, like for example we have 6 kids currently between the ages of 10 months and 13 years old. My parents take siblings sets so we currently only have 2 siblings sets of 3. These kids we have are amazing and truely little flourishing flowers. My parents have been foster parents since 2015 and are going to continue for many years to come. ❤
Edit: my parents also like to take in siblings sets that are about to be split up, we once had 6 siblings in our house trying to keep family’s together.

I have a kinder at my work in a foster situation who I was warned has panic meltdowns if he hears his birth name so we need to use his new name. The way he talks about his foster parents is so cute, they clearly dote on him. Foster parents are amazing.

Dear Foster Mother Laura,
Thank you for saying yes to help when everyone said no. Thank you for caring when no one else did. Thank you for listening when no one else would. Thank you for being kind when everyone else wasn't. Thank you for trying when everyone else quit. Thank you for still being here, and although I don't understand your reasons, I just want to say thank you for all the times when no one else has.
