I was so focused on that checklist and home inspection… and I hadn’t parented before. So I did my best, but definitely have modified along the way! ☺️

Tell me about your foster care bedroom! What changes have you made over time? ⬇️

You really care. It's so nice that you find children to help and make them feel loved. I'm sure one day, some of them will come back to thank you.

I'm really appreciating the ever expanding light choices. I got smart bulbs and they are so nice, especially when my migraine is bad. So I can just set the lights to red and it's so much easier on my eyes and head.

those stars were an absolute saving grace growing up. they were so soothing and I would just imagine myself laying out under the stars every night

Remember foster parents: it's easy to forget when it's day time and everything is distracting. Nights are often the hardest because a dark room can be any room in the dark and you don't know what monsters haunted them

My dad just got a handheld silicone shark light for my little brother that he'll carry around the house while I watch him if it's dark. Those handheld soft lights are great, even for me since I not only get anxious in the dark still, but also because I struggle with night blindness.

Honestly, just that one detail of what you did to make this room as comfortable as you could makes me unimaginably happy.
Any child under your care is so lucky, because everyone who watches these videos knows you care so much about them.

My father was in the foster system since he was three. He does not speak much of the experience but still stays in contact with the last family he was with (~3 years) before joining the army. Even at the age of 76 he calls his "temporary brother" to catch up. Foster families DO make a difference, thankyou for being such a caring foster mom ❤

also I would like to add:

if your foster child has trouble sleeping in a bed with pillows and everything, try some other options. maybe a lighter blanket, less pillows or sleeping bags for the start?

it can be difficult to sleep in an environment you are not used to. keep that in mind and you will find the right solution for your foster child.

We need more foster parents like you. When I aged out, the day I left cops were called bc the husband struck me. The abuse had been ongoing, but finally broke into physical.

Foster kids are NOT a source of income.

You aren’t just a role model for foster parents. You are a great role model for parents in general. Thank you for always centering compassion and kindness to children first.

This is so sweet! When I was little I had a princess alarm clock that also worked as a mini projector that showed stars in the ceiling and played a soothing music, watching this brings back good memories 🫶🏻

I want to thank you for doing those little(but very big) things for them. I had a lot of early trauma, and darkness was the scariest thing for me. I slept with the ceiling light on because it was the only light I had. You are making such a difference in the experience these kids have in your home. Absolutely beautiful.

As an adult with neurodivergent with childhood trauma, lighting is huge for me. Soft, Low level lighting sprinkled through the room is my jam. I can’t do overhead lighting god forbid ceiling lighting and DEVIL FORBID FLUORESCENT LIGHTING 🤢…. Little things like this seem arbitrary to nt people but for ppl w trauma nd and general mental illness, it means so so much and rlly does make a difference on our well-being. ESPECIALLY as a child! Thank you for being such a caring and thoughtful human being ❤️

Hey! I want to see what the set up looks like!
I remember when I was 4, they had just separated me from my sisters for the first time (we came from a really bad case) that didn't go well for I was very protective of my littlest sister who was only a year and a half, and the family that got me stuck me in a room by myself that, ( never been by myself before), and there was absolutely no light at all. I was suffering not only from fear of the dark, but also combat grade PTSD. So needless to say I was completely terrified. I remember bawling until I fell asleep from sheer fear and exhaustion.
So thank you so much for giving these little ones, not just light but also fun light!
We were adopted by a fantastically wonderful, and very Patient Woman and her husband. She put a purple bulb, our favorite color, in a mickey mouse lamp and would play a cd of soft beautiful music for us. And of course she would take us to all the doors and windows to show that they were locked and we were safe.
Once again thank you!

As a former foster kid this one jester would've meant something to me even if I couldn't fully express it. Seeing you cared enough to make me comfortable and safe. I'm glad you made the adjustments for them😊

As an adult who spent many childhood years in and out of foster care I don't have big enough words to thank you. I pray these videos will find the right people who have the samebcalling as you. I pray you are blessed and happy.
