A 17 year old needed a home for a little and we said yes :) Even when we already were going to have 2 littles.

Here are good questions to ask when you get a foster care placement call.

There is definitely a NEED in every state for foster parents. I hope this encourages you to take the first step to get licensed yourself or help a foster parent local to you :)

You and your husband are such caring people… God talks to us all and we need to listen. You have listened many times.. 💕

I totally understand that and saying ‘yes’ to the unknown! That was always my biggest fear 😧 but it always worked out well! ❤

Sometimes that nagging feeling is God talking to you. I'm glad you listened and took her for the two weeks. Pray about if you should extend her stay and see if that nagging feeling comes back.

I remember the chaos of your first call. Good to review that and give tips.

I love fostering teens. My husband and I are currently taking a break because I'm going back to school to get my LPN. But the great thing about teens is they are more independent and you can introduce them to some really cool things. I feel like this could be an opportunity for you to keep her for a while you guys are so supportive of the family and teens really need that. When we had a 16 year old boy he really struggled with his family situation and I think it really helped that my husband and I supported him. If you have a po box I would love to send you some books.

Ask what her grade reading level is… as a teen, you could read a novel with her and discuss it. Then she could write an essay about a topic raised. There lots of great comprehension packets for classic literature pieces online. Look up your state standards to find recommended reading lists for high school juniors and seniors. Also, you could buy her a pretty journal and have her gratitude journal each day — or just brain dump journal. If she’s a struggling reader, audible can read the book while she follows along and that will increase her reading skill too. 😊

I feel we often align. I have been doing respite. I was asked to consider a foster care placement for a teenage girl. 15 year old. They talked to me and there are just some concerns. It is so hard. I feel this child needs support, therapy, and some solid moral guidance in addition to realistic boundaries. I am so nervous. I am meeting her on Friday.

If she has a county or city school that she was previously enrolled in, she may be able to do online school.. we have this here in OR.

Question- when you have multiple placements that didn't come together do the kids ever keep in touch? CAN they? You should do a video on keeping kids who don't know each other getting along.

I don't know if I recommend this author on that other video but Lurlene McDaniel is good for teen girls. She writes about teens mostly girls but a few books have boys as the main character that face different hardships from life changing events like parents death to loss of friends. Most of them are about facing life threatening medical conditions
