Squats are one of the best exercises but must be performed with proper technique. This is a really great how to and should be helpful to a lot of people. Thanks for sharing with us!

I like how thorough and specific the advice is! The camera at the beginning cuts off the feet though. Great video.

Squatting below parallel is the best way to squat. If your only doing half squats it actually ruins your knees because your stopping in a awkward position. You should always do Full Range Of Motion

Thanks for the video! Now I can do a squat with proper form. Using a chair for form is a really good idea.

It depends on your goals. For cardio, it wouldnt be a bad idea. Doing anything has some benefits. It would be more for burning calories than building muscle. Similar to biking. Personally, I would rather bike than squat in place for high reps.

For body composition, the best thing to do would simply be to lift in the gym with weights with proper form (sets around 6-12 reps), then also do cardio either in the morning or after right after lifting as a cooldown.

Im 13 and I just did 50 of these the wong way. I kept moving my knees past the toes. My legs are gonna hurt like shit tomorrow morning. I regret doing squats without check on how to do them properly.

This is how I'm gonna train my squats from now on - I'm no bodybuilding hero I just don't want my shit snapped up. Thanks for the vid!

@crossfitsg the squat is a quad dominant movement. A hip dominant movement will be the deadlift.

I'll make a quick list of things wrong with this video

1. Feet pointing straight forward. That is wrong. Need to be slightly out to allow for glute activation and for the hips to open up.
2. Going below parallel takes the pressure off the knees as your hips/glutes take the weight in a deep squat.
3. Knees past toes is an old rule which has no validation.
4. Squats are not best used for cardio. They are best for building strength and beginners should use weights dont need to be advanced

I totally agree with you. Trainers are mostly upper-body captains with more show than go. Mehdi (Stronglifts 5x5) and a whole bunch of other lifters seem to think otherwise and they have thousands of members/followers.

A correct squat always has the hips go below parallel to the floor, so that the hamstrings aids the quads to safeguard the knee. The squat demonstrated here is actually a partial squat and is detrimental to your knees in the long term thanks to a lack of depth in the squat. No depth and no hamstring involvement result in knee injury.
