Cruise ships are a foodie's heaven. There's something for every craving, whether it's late-night pizza, a juicy steak, seafood, or salad for those looking for a lighter option.

Even so, cruise lines aren't typically known for their high-quality food. While that's not to say you won't have delicious meals, not everything offered will be the same quality you would expect in fine-dining restaurants.

If you are someone with a sensitive stomach or simply want to avoid some of the worst options, here's a list of 5 foods you should never eat on a cruise.

I've been on this planet 55 years and have never put my ketchup or mustard in the refrigerator.

This is just silly. Never had any issues with any of these things. Ever!😂

Condiments, which contain vinegar, do not need to be refrigerated, even at home. Maybe they shouldn't be out in the sun but people are way too obsessed with the condiments. Mayo, if homemade, does need refrigeration, due to eggs. Just use common sense, people.
It's that corn syrup in them that needs to go.

Absolute nonsense. You need a course in food safety before you talk about these things.

The ketchup and mustard tip is actually spot on. I've seen people take a bite of their hotdog and then add more condiments while touching the nozzle to their food. It's more the outside bacteria, not that the ketchup went bad, that causes stomach issues in some people. Kids are especially guilty of this. I saw one swipe the drippimg ice cream from a soft serve machine and stick their finger in their mouth and do it again. It was beyond disgusting and luckily a crew member saw it and shut down the machine for "cleaning".

While tap water in poor countries is risky, the tap water on the ship is treated to be safe although it does have a chemical after taste. I will take a filter bottle or pitcher instead of having to buy bottled water on the ship. Agree, eggs on hot tray in buffet are lousy; I choose to get breakfast in the dining room on a sea day and the last morning.

Am I missing something here? Have been on many cruises and never heard of anyone ever having food poisoning from eating food on the ship. Norovirus yes and touching handles and serving utensils can be ify. I love the eggs every morning and yes the omelets are the best choice. Can't afford the extra in speciality dining. Just say'n we enjoy cruising and maybe we are just stupid lucky never got sick nor saw any problems with other passengers. Fully agree when off the careful what you eat or drink and always have wipes or something for your hands don't bring something back to the ship your ship mates will not be happy.

I’ve already splurge by cruising. No need to add extra unnecessary costs to my vacation. Every penny I save will enable me to keep cruising.

I am an infection control nurse. Like you, in the buffet, I wash my hands before dining, and after I have my food. I believe that the issue with the condiments, ice cream, etc., is that everyone does not wash their hands. It is difficult to change people’s mindset. Since the Civil War, Florence Nightingale and Clara Barton, have educated people on infection control. It's the 21st century, and people for some reason do not know, understand, or implement handwashing techniques.

Ketchup and Mustard don't need to be refrigerated unless you want it cold!

Touching unsanitized objects is a part of life, even on doors, escalators, elevator buttons, supermarket trolleys, money in your wallet, ATM buttons, and and and and.... I don't overthink, because if i do I'll lock myself in my house 🤔🤨🙄

More likely to get food poisoning from the salad bar than from a ketchup from a pump. PH of 3.7 is very low.

Condiment are served this way in fast food resturants. I figure if it passes health code, it is safe.

This started out telling you what not to eat, mostly poor advice. Then switches to specialty dining and room service. Huh?

Some buffet still have self serve with ladles and serving spoons, handled by everybody.
Make sure you sanitise your hands after taking your food and before eating. Better still, sanitise your cutlery unless it is an individually wrapped disposable. Wipe down every knob and handle in your cabin as soon as you get on board, including the TV remote.

This is probably one of the most inaccurate videos I have seen on the subject of cruising. Speculative and inaccurate.
