Caldwell Blakeman Esselstyn Jr. (born December 12, 1933) is an American physician, author and former Olympic rowing champion. Dr. Esselstyn was trained as a surgeon at the Cleveland Clinic and at St. George’s Hospital, London. In 1968, as an Army surgeon in Vietnam, he was awarded the Bronze Star.

Esselstyn promotes a whole foods, plant-based diet, arguing it can prevent coronary disease and cardiovascular disease. The diet excludes all animal products and oils and recommends foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, pulses, and especially cruciferous vegetables.

Eat healthy, do exercise, take vitamin tabs and sleep well.
That's what I've done and just celebrated my 90th birthday lately. 😊

The challenges with the abundance of YouTube knowledge is that for every do, there at least 5 don'ts . Thank you for sharing. I'm literally learning that all minerals, vitamins and foods are bad and good. Nothing should be done in excess. Let's be wise, in al that we do

My granny died at 97yrs old. Southern cook and never a gym. So many people count their blessings on what they do. But by the grace of God do we have our being at all ages. Don't misunderstand me, eating healthy is my sport. But sometimes we mis the blessings of just good help and longevity

Good for Doc E but dang there are medical doctors who highly recommend nuts and seeds, red meat, fish, eggs, kefir, avocado's . Whole Foods no packaged junk, no fast food, lo carbs and do your best to cut out sugar. To much contradictions when it comes to diet.

My parents, uncles and many of my cousins lived healthy lives into their nineties. One thing that was consistent, even though that didn't work out was that they always moved around and they never over ate. Their calories came from all the food groups and they were stubborn as hell.

This is a 14 minute summary of someone's career.
Dr Esselstyn worked an entire career as a heart surgeon. Concluded that all they were doing was to stop people from dying, NOT helping them to live.
As he developed his program (his family all still follow it) he asked for his first test group. the hospital gave him 23? 25? people. They had all been sent home to get their affairs in order and then die.

All but 2 of the people agreed to go on the program. The 2 who opted out died in less than a year. The rest are still alive 20 years later. 2 others stepped on the path and had a heart event and then stepped back on. They are still among the living.

To get a better, fuller view of this, look up the video "Forks Over Knives."

People no one is a health prophet. Every body is different. Eat in moderation. My grand parents lived to 100 and they ate everything including butter, nuts, oils.

Dr E. Needs to read a book that was written this century, lol. Olive oil, fish, nuts and avocados can account for half your calories and you might be in tip top shape.

With cutting seed oil and sugar to zero, you will be much healthier than with the SAD diet.

But, the best nutrition is the one you get when you’re fasting.
While you are fasting, your metabolism consumes EXCLUSIVELY animal fat and animal protein. And it consumes NO carbs.
Now think.
Now think twice.
Now let it settle.
Now kick that thought around for some days, weeks or even months.

And then you will raise the question: But I cannot fast all my life?
Well, fasting is not the thing that makes you healthy.
Consuming animal fat and animal protein is what makes you healthy.

Try
Enjoy
Prosper

Dr. Esselstyn deserves a Nobel prize. He’s 100% spot on in everything he recommends. People who disagree with him simply like meat, dairy and oils too much to give them up. So they suddenly all become expert nutritionists, and come up with some reasons totally unsupported by credible scientific research, to keep their unhealthy habits of eating meats, dairy and oils.

This is your opinion and I do agree on sugar. Most of the latest information from top nutritionists is olive oil, nuts and some animal protein is good for overall health. Animal protein has all essential amino acids and you need that for muscle as you grow older.
