It's not just about consuming the pesticide, we also have to think of the workers exposed to pesticides at full strength day after day.

I know that here in the UK, it has been found that the "organic" labelled food is very often found to contain the same pesticides as non organic. Life is a mine field these days, and those of us who choose to live healthily are made to pay more. It really points to being punished for trying to stand apart from their programs of population control. I can only urge all to grow your own. That way we can step away from our dependency on the system and take sovereignty back into our own hands. Love all. 🙏

I have followed you for a few years and rarely bother commenting. But it seems important to encourage you when determining your place in nutrition empowering content. I have respected your abstaining from polarizing topics in general. This kind of video is helping not hurting. If you took pause before committing to this topic, I am proud of you for choosing to do right by us despite whatever risk you face. Keep this up, Teach!

I'm so lucky I live in Italy. Down here we have the world's most restrictive laws on pesticides.

This kind of video should get the most likes. It has to do with our safety. People need to be more outspoken than they are.

I just bought a large tub of non organic oats and I was at the store debating whether to spend the same amount for a smaller organic option. Wow. Definitely going back to buy the organic one. Thank you for this!!

In Europe there is an increasing focus on biological control methods, which involves the use of biological agents rather than chemical ones to control the pest species. It‘s a promising technique but still faces many obstacles. Hopefully it will be further elaborated in the future!

I've been using the baking soda trick for a few years now! As a grad student, 100% organic isn't feasible always but I do my best. In the summer almost all my produce is either foraged or from local farms (which even if they aren't certified organic use organic practices) but in the winter its a bit harder. I do always buy organic soy products, but with grains, nuts and legumes less so. This was a good reminder of the importance of organic practices all around. thanks!

Hi Derek! Glad to hear you speaking out about this. If you haven't heard of him, Zach Bush is a wealth of information around the whole topic you discussed. He has a global health channel and gives deep dives in to glyphosate and many other interesting topics. He has a non profit called Farmers Foorprint that teachs about and highlights regenerative farming practices. He's a really cool guy. He lobbys in the US against glyphosate. Going to Rock the Park today.Yesterday was an amazingly fun day there.

1. Oats;
Heavily sprayed with glyphospate. Can be linked to rates of dementia. Affects microbiome.
2. Garbanzo/ chickpeas
3. Strawberries
Levels are high for pesticides, but has also the most variety. 300 pounds per acre for strawberries compared to 5 pounds for corn. Linked to lowering male fertility.
4. Spinach and other green leafy veges.
5. Soy. Heavily sprayed with round up.

There is a to be said for companion planting to protect your food & the bottom line is this, time to go to the "old ways", "Grow Your Own Food", know what your eating & grow what you eat. Get involved in community gardens for food, network. The world is already hinting to not depend anymore on stores, nope, depend on yourself, we have become too lazy. Grow sprouts on your window sill use tower pots "normally used for strawberries" but stick lettuce in there, put up green houses & use filtered rain water.... Break the addiction to store bought food, you can grow on a patio or balcony in a block of flats, get permission to grow on the rooves of buildings because dear hearts, life as we knew it is going going so before it's gone, set up growing your own food. Love your channel btw, i don't often comment but this is important & rally farmers to stop destroying top soil. ≧◠‿◠≦✌Peace

I try to buy organic but if I can’t I always soak the fruit and vegetables in baking soda and water for about 20 minutes. I have been doing this for several years. Happy you made this video to educate everyone.

We eat organic as much as possible, and have for years, but this was very much appreciated and informative. Thank you, Derek!

Great video Derek. Thank you doing this! I just wanted to add that glyphosate isn’t used in all countries and so isn’t a worry for everyone. I believe its use is banned/limited in some EU countries and Mexico has a plan to phase it out in the next couple of years.

Also - a great way to buy organic produce and support local farmers is to check out CSA options in your area. Can work out a little cheaper than buying from grocery stores, plus it's much fresher.

I've read that glyphosate may be the reason why so many people are celiac or gluten intolerant too. It's not the gluten that is harming people - it's the glyphosate. It's such evil stuff.

Love these educational videos Derek. Would love to see more!

I found the documentary Kiss the Ground very interesting on this subject. We are ruining our soil and if we turned that around we could have a chance to get the planet back in balance again.

Foods like celery and leafy greens absorb pesticides. Round up has been found in non organic oats.
I always buy organic.

I have started switching to organic options after hauling non organic garbanzo beans out of the field to the processers. The plants are sprayed with Roundup as mentioned in the video and it's said to kill everything but the bean. I have trouble believing that because the plants are so brown and shriveled up, anything that can live through that has to be far from its natural state.
