Dangerous Foods Your Cat Should Never Eat

In this video, we will talk about 14 human foods that are toxic to cats.

Chocolate
Chocolate is a delicious treat for humans, but it is toxic to cats because it contains a substance called theobromine. Humans break down and metabolize theobromine easily, but cats don't.
Milk, Cheese, and Dairy Products
Although some adult cats may still produce some lactase enzyme, most felines are lactose intolerant, meaning that cow milk and dairy products such as like cheese or cream can upset their stomachs. They may experience anything from mild to severe gastrointestinal discomfort – diarrhea, loose stools, vomiting, stomach pain, or gas.
Salt
Most human food contains too much salt, and salt isn’t recommended for cats.
Eating too much salt can lead to a condition known as salt poisoning. It causes water deprivation in pets and leads to symptoms like vomiting, fever, diarrhea, excessive thirst, and tremors. In severe cases, it may even cause death.
Citrus fruits
Citrus fruits such as oranges, lemons, limes, and grapefruits contain essential oils and citric acid that can cause problems in cats.
Cats can also experience skin irritation if their skin comes into contact with citrus fruits. And even simply inhaling citrus essential oils, or any other essential oil, can cause problem to cats.
Raw or undercooked meat, eggs and fish
Raw fish, raw eggs and raw meat can contain bacteria like Salmonella and E. coli that can be harmful to pets. Cooking to a safe temperature kills off those harmful bacteria as well as any possible viruses.
Bones
Cooked bones are a serious danger to felines because they can splinter and get stuck in a cat's throat or stomach.
Avocados
Avocados contain a toxic substance called persin, which is perfectly safe for human, but can cause serious health problems — even death — in many animals.
Grapes and Raisins
Cats should never eat grapes and raisins. These fruits are known to be extremely toxic to cats. Grape toxicity in cats can cause serious kidney damage that can lead to sudden kidney failure, which can be fatal.
Hotdogs
Your feline friend would probably love to chow down on a hotdog. But is that a good idea? Many hotdogs contain ingredients that are not good for cats, such as sugars, artificial sweeteners, and unhealthy saturated fats that they cannot process. Hotdogs also contain seasonings, such as onion powder and garlic, which are toxic to cats. And the biggest problem with hotdogs is salt.
In fact, all processed meats are unsafe for your feline. These products contain a significant amount of salt, fat, chemical preservatives, and added spices which are bad for your cat's stomach
Tuna
Most cats love tuna to a fault. Tuna is very tasty, perhaps much tastier than your cat’s kibble. However, cats can become addicted to tuna. Some felines, when given tuna on a regular basis, will start turning up their nose at their regular cat food, hoping you will give more tuna instead.
Macadamia Nuts
Macadamia nuts are very toxic to cats. These nuts are often found in baked goods, cakes, cookies, muffins, and even trail mix. Make sure to keep these foods away from your pet.
Caffeine
Any beverage that contains a hint of caffeine is a big no-no for your cat.
Caffeine over-stimulates a cat’s nervous system. It causes their heart rate to increase to a dangerous level, and their blood pressure skyrocket.
Alcohol
Alcohol exists in many products we wouldn’t realize, such as mouth wash, perfume, cleaning products, and hand sanitizers. Make sure to keep them out of reach. Even the smallest amount of alcohol, such as found in cough syrups, medications, and raw bread dough, are poisonous to cats.
Raw Yeast Dough
If you’ve ever made bread from scratch, then you know that dough has to rise. When a cat eats bread dough, the yeast in that dough can expand in your cat’s belly and cause a lot of pain and bloating. This can cause a cat’s stomach to twist, which can turn into a medical emergency. There is also a risk of alcohol poisoning since yeast produces alcohol during the fermenting process. Make sure raw dough is out of your feline’s reach at all times.

I am a Butcher and my cat lives on raw meat.
18 and a half years old and still going strong.
And she loves a glass of warm milk on a cold winters morning.
You don't see too many cats in the wild taking the bones out of there mice and cooking them well to kill the mouse germs.

My cats have been drinking milk and eating cheese and tuna all their lives. They turn 17 next year. Not so dangerous I guess...

Raw meats are perfectly fine, just try and get free range so it doesn't have antibiotics and hormones. Feeding my cat raw minced beef saved him from death once and he regularly gets raw chicken as a treat. My kitten as well. Milk is fine in small amounts but it's best not to give it to kittens just in case it upsets their delicate digestive system. Fish is alright in small amounts but it's safer to stay away from it because some cats can be allergic to it. This includes fish flavoring. Also definitely keep away from potatoes for both cats and dogs.

I have fed my cat cheese before, but a tiny piece. I let her drink milk and never gained weight. I let her lick out my Vanilla Ice Cream bowl when I was done, no symptoms. She is 17 yrs old though.

My 15 yo Calico will and does eat any velveta or American cheese balls till I cut her off. She's a little scrawny and the Vet said to feed her whatever she will eat. She (Rose) adopted us when she almost still a kitten, but when I seen her belly bulging, I decided we need to help this girl. She gave us 4 beautiful kittens!

my vet has told me to to use unflavored yogurt a dairy product when giving my cat liquid medicine so milk is not really that bad as long as it is not overdone.

I have one adult and 6 semi wild/half friendly outside cats that I feed. When I started feeding the mother she was ferrel. Today she is my friend. Her babies will come around too one day. They get high dollar dry cat food and wet cat food together. Occasionally, I buy them a can of pink salmon and they love that. I will bake salmon and feed em that and they even get air fried chicken and shrimp 🤣🤣🤷🏼‍♀️ they are literally wild but have a heater in the winter time and will turn their nose up to cheap cat food

Just try and tell my cat she can’t have ham. I limit it to just a little bit every other week. Yes she cries every time I open the fridge

You can't change your cats diet all the time though
Every animal needs time to adjust to a different diet or kibble
I buy a new bag preferably before hes done the bag
So if its a new kind i buy i mix some old and new together increasing the new amount until the old is gone this way it doesn't upset their bellies

Actually, it is poison for them, but animals aren't stupid as people expect them as. Cats, either all animals know what they can eat and what isn't good for them. So if you ever acidentally give bad food to your cat, don't be too stressed. But anyway, always make sure to check if there's bad food for them cause some of cats aren't able to sniff so they couldn't know if it is bad or not.

My old cat loved to drink coffee, eat cheese, whipped cream and butter, raw fish, and hunt and eat rodents and birds. It became 23 years old and had very good health all the way until the end.
