Rent and living prices in BC is beyond crazy expensive. This is coming from someone born and raised here. I can only imagine how difficult it would be to come from another country finance wise plus the language barrier must be difficult too. I wish you all, all the best in your future endeavours.

Thanks for being honest with people mate - I’m from Van but have lived here in Australia for almost five years. I don’t think I can go back at this rate OTL but people who have never been should know that ⭐️

thats crazy, thats like robbery in the prices, what crazy person pays 10k per month to live in box, you might as well buy rv or shuttle bus and live in that for lot less, and still have job and live like king !

You can move to Alberta ... It is cheaper, however not a world class !! In Alberta you better be ready for regular 6 month winters with regular winter temps way below 0 and sometimes close to -50C ... I lived in Alberta for over 20 years, those winters are exhausting !! Yes, Vancouver housing is more expensive compared to Alberta. Shopping in Superstore etc is the same. In my opinion it is well worth it to pay extra to live in Vancouver. This is my personal opinion, I understand there will be people who don't agree ...

This is a pretty luxurious lifestyle, but for people trying to live on less I think you can easily cut out $1k from monthly expenses. Depending on area you can get away with only public transportation and no car. Prepping your own meals instead of eating out brings down food costs from $1k -> $500. Even just these few things will save around $1k per month with some modifications to lifestyle. Thanks for the informative video!

I put my 2 bedroom basement suite up for rent in Surrey..received more than 1200 different persons/families pleading to rent ..it’s heartbreaking hearing from families that have newly come to this country for a better life only to have NO housing

I lucked out with a large bachelor in the west end near English bay for $1, 495.

The same place for new comers is now $1, 800.

Nice video...even when considering the higher cost of living, relocating to Vancouver seems like a right decision for me.

I moved up north as it is more affordable and jobs are plenty paying good wages. It’s a sacrifice but it is family friendly, safe and the weather is just as good as Vancouver. I love the outdoors, we have a theatre, movie theatre, civic centre, sports activities, gyms, restaurants, civic events, children events. I have a beautiful home, I feel safe, and it’s low stress, and people are friendly. I would never move back to Vancouver.

Bro, I've all my life in Vancouver and just moved to Ontario. I thought BC was expensive, bro Ontario is more expensive (not in terms of housing, unless you're buying a house right in the middle of Toronto's downtown) in terms of grocery and car insurance and stuff. Also, if you're trying to get a driving licence in Toronto and giving a knowledge test for it, they'll straight up ask for like $150 (but that includes the fee for the driving test but you pay $15 again if you retake the knowledge test) whereas in Van, they'd take like $15 every time for the knowledge test. I might as well move back to Van honestly, I find Toronto more for those who like city life, Vancouver is more like for the nature-lovers. Vancouver's BY THE WAYY :)
PS :- The pay rate in Toronto is less compared to Vancouver...

One bedroom suite for 1200 a year ago sounds very reasonable. I live in a small not desirable city in Saskatchewan and here that place would be $800 to $1000. Maybe here is overpriced as well.

I feel like prices are even higher, any 1 bedroom from van to burnaby to surrey is going to be more than 2.2 k a month, and if you find something less than 2k, there is something terribly wrong with it or its in the downtown east side. Car insurance with 9 years totally clean record is $220 a month (work w/ more than 15km away), and yea gotta live far away because its so expensive. Also, we have some of the worst traffic in north america if you consider how bad it is vs how small the population actually is. Transit also sucks (and is expensive!) if you are outside of Vancouver proper. I do like living here but I couldn't do it on my own.

The issue is not high cost of living, it’s the facts that salaries are not increasing and they are not at all matching up the high real estate prices. Cost of living is going north everywhere but so are the salaries. There are not enough businesses and companies in Canada that are growing and paying high salaries to sustain this cost of living. As a result savings are low and your quality of life is suffering. Canada really needs to do rectify its real estate issues otherwise a lot of young population will move to other countries.

I've looked closely at the rents and have compared them with Edmonton, and yes, living here in a winter city is cheap until you get the utilities bill for the winter months, I'd be willing to trade out by moving back home to Vancouver and apply that high utilities cost to my rent and it be almost comparable. The house I rent here is 2000 a month for a dump, however a very nice 4 bedroom will run you 1800 to 4000 or more . 1 bedroom downtown in an upscale apartment 1400 to 2000. I'd trade the cost to minus -30. Oh wait, i am moving back for the end of June.
