How I got here…

21: Graduated Vanderbilt in 3 years Magna Cum Laude, and took a fancy consulting job.
23 yrs old: Left my fancy consulting job to start a business (a gym).
24 yrs old: Opened 5 gym locations.
26 yrs old: Closed down 6th gym. Lost everything.
26 yrs old: Got back to launching gyms (launched 33). Then, lost everything for a 2nd time.
26 yrs old: In desperation, started licensing model as a hail mary. It worked.
27 yrs old: "Gym Launch" does $3M profit the next 6 months. Then $17M profit next 12 months.
28 yrs old: Started Prestige Labs. $20M the first year.
29 yrs old: Launched ALAN, a software company for agencies to work leads for customers. Scaled to $1.7mmo within 6 months.
31 yrs old: Sold 75% of UseAlan to a strategic buyer in an all stock deal.
31 yrs old: Sold 66% of Gym Launch & Prestige Labs at $46.2M valuation in all-cash deal to American Pacific Group. (you can google it)
32 yrs old: Started making free content showing how we grow companies to make real business education accessible to everyone (and) to attract business owners to invest or scale their businesses.

Today: Our portfolio now does $200M/yr between 10 companies. The largest doing $100M/yr the smallest doing $5M per year. Our ownership varies between 20% and 100% ownership of the companies. Many of them we invested in early and helped grow (which is how we make our money - not youtube videos).

To all the gladiators in the arena, we’re all in the middle of writing our own stories. The worse the monsters, the more epic the story.

You either get an epic outcome or an epic story. Both mean you win.

Keep crushing. May your desires be greater than your obstacles.

Never quit,

Alex

*FULL DISCLOSURE*
I make content to make money - just - on a longer time horizon than most. I want to build trust with business owners so we can find the best ones and help them scale. And if they’re awesome, write them a check and go all the way as partners.

Tried this with a girl at the bar. I said “do you want it in the front door or the back door?”….

She hit me with pepper spray and then I got banned from my favorite bar

If done tactically, this works great. Done poorly and too straight forward and your going to lose a bunch of annoyed potential customers.

I do that with my 3 year old. "Do you want to take a bath now, or in 5 minutes?"

"Assumed close" awesome sales tactic I use towards the final conversation of trying to sell a package to a fitness client. I like to close with " were you thinking of the once a week or twice a week training session?" Recently started to trying to avoid the word "package" at the end of the initial first session

Being in sales I can attest this is a strong tactic but it does take some finesse. There’s a fine line between using assumption to overpower someone’s ability to say no and making them feel bullied into a sale. Use with caution.

Learned this when setting appointments back in the day. Never ask "is Wednesday at 10 ok? " you would instead ask "is Wednesday or Friday better for you" ...very simple tactic. Yet very effective.

This works with dating too. Assume they're interested and let them tell you if they're not. A lot of people approach the wrong way giving the other person reasons to say no.

An example: "what's a good way of staying in touch?" rather than asking IF you can get their number. See the distinction?

Little did he know the girl was flirting with him and he had no clue …. Sex sells

Damn, you charged 35 million off her filed card for 2 supplements? Well, she didn't ask for the price so I guess that's legit

People don't want the social anxiety of saying "oh, no I don't want that"

The amount of value I am getting from Alex's videos is unbelievable. I'm just going to start watching at least one of his videos every single day... Go through all of them and go through them again. So many insights!

I love the way people are unlocking levels when they listen to you. Like most of the people listening just leveled up. I have always been really good at talking to people so stuff like this comes easy once you understand it and most of the time they could literally care less about all the details they just want to get in and get out.

Its a very good close for an item which means nothing to the customer. Try selling that to a customer who needs to finance something that is more than a months salary. In that scenario, its a very good tactic to be a teacher and not a salesman. My biggest and most profitable sales have always been giving the ultimate solution first, then providing solutions which will help them the most. Always stress the cost vs benefit at a descending rate. Most expensive/best down to least expensive/why. The customer will always get what they want, and they will never get what they cant afford. My biggest problem today is i dont have time for the amount of clients i have. Im creating a new company with set prices for the die hards on a budget, and a new one for the die hards where money doesnt matter. Weird problem to have.

My most used pickup line is:
"When will you be available for our first date?"

People HATE assumed closes. It’s this kind of gross stuff that gets me tons of clients because I NEVER do It and always ask them how I can be most helpful. I might give examples of that help, but I never make assumptions about their needs.

Fucking love your content. I only have a cleaning company but the blueprints fit. Thanks for all of the free knowledge.

So true! Everytime I go into a store if somebody asks me what I want to buy, instead of asking me what I am doing I end up buying something. The thing is if I already went to a store I already convinced myself of wanting something so I am an easy sell.

I "assume close" with my 4yo kid when I ask him if he wants to take a bath now or in 3 mins. 😆 "Do you want broccoli or green beans?" "Do you want to read this book or that book and go to bed rtf now?" Lol

How about we say that she was already interested in buying the supplements. Your question would have made no difference because she wanted some of that already
