Counting Calories works better for me because I don't want to highly restrict food like potatoes, pasta or rice.

This was the tough love I needed to hear. Thank you, Dr. Gillaspy. I appreciate your calm, thoughtful, and educated information.

My experience of eating whole foods over a few months and strictly cutting out the processed junk has been that those processed items now no longer taste so great. I don’t even miss these items; in fact, many chips or snacks taste “fake” compared to an omelette or salad with avocado and organic vegetables. All that is to say that those go-to snacks with few actual nutrients do begin to lose their appeal when replaced with whole, nutrient dense foods.

Thanks so much Dr. Becky for sharing your knowledge, enthusiasm and encouragement! I started the LCHF way of eating February 1, 2023 and as of today (May 2, 2023) I have lost 21 lbs. Down from 210 to 189. I am a tall (6' 3") older man (58 yo) and have always been somewhat skinny and a hard gainer. However, over the past few years I've seen weight gain mostly on my gut so I was "Skinny Fat". I started back to the gym, and then discovered LCHF and Intermittent Fasting which has been a wonderful blessing. As with many of other YouTube comments I have seen, I have experienced the gain in mental clarity and energy by implementing proper training, LCHF and IF. I am also a cancer survivor (10 years in remission) and have been concerned for a long time about eating healthy, but really did not know how to start. Now, I have the best tools to help keep a recurrence at bay. Thanks for all you do! God Bless you!

From my experiences I did keto and didn’t lose weight. I was doing keto plus intermittent fasting or one meal a day and didn’t see fat loss. But When I slashed my meal in half or even 1/3 I began to see results. Calorie counting was the primary thing. So if you can do calorie counting, keto, and try intermittent fasting you should see results. Of course, eating whole foods are best with proper sleep and high intensity exercise are a plus!

The best comparison video ever on weight control and why it's challenging to control weight loss and maintain the loss. As soon as you start adding carbs back while consuming fat, you gain the weight back quickly. And again the yoyo dieting process starts all over again and again and again year after year after year. 💡Ketogenesis is a lifestyle change for me. Over the last 6 months of weight loss, 35 pounds and10 more to go, I would stay with FAT. Sugar controlled my life. Thank you Dr. Gillaspy, as always, your clear explanations in your videos explains the "why" of why metabolism is so challenging. At the six month mark of NO sugar and NO processed, the results = NO CRAVINGS! This is KEY for me staying in a ketogenic state.

Outstanding video, I’ve had a lot of success on keto over the last 2 1/2 years but have recently started buying “keto friendly” foods purely for convenience. Your video was a great reminder that whole food is the only way to go. I am also guilty of counting net carbs and wii re-think now.

Excellent presentation, as always.

Whole foods- always.

Wholefoods become more delicious the longer one sticks to them. You'll begin to yearn for wholefoods, and processed foods will become unsatisfying, even repelling.

There's another reason why carbs are bad which links back to insulin: insulin inhibits fat burning and carbs raises insulin the most, so not only does carbs make you eat more, it also locks you out of burning fat which is why people have so much trouble losing it to get healthy.

It's also the reason why low carb diets are effective because it allows fat-burning to be possible.

In other words, nothing has really changed from our grandparent's generation: sweets and junk food will make you fat. If you try to tell them that you can still eat them by "counting calories" they will call you an idiot who's trying to come up with an excuse to eat sweets and junk food over veggies and healthy foods.

For me to lose weight I have had to control both. I have a lot of weight to lose. Lowering carbs & sugar is first on the list but I still need to watch calories.

Loved this video. Lots of details and you took a stance against a university trying to pitch a biased research. Thank you.

That's great info. It's easy (and I've done it) to think that net carbs is key to losing weight, but it's only another tactic by food manufacturers to keep us eating their junk food.

Dr Becky, you did an excellent job with this information. Thank you so much for putting out honest and true content. I will be sharing this with my students in the fall. (I'm a neighbor down 81 :)

Dr. Becky, I have been watching your channel for years. I find the information and your presentation skills very beneficial for my own weightless journey. I lost about 70 lbs on strict Keto, but after maintaining my weightless for 5 years, I'm ready to tackle the remaining 50 lbs. I'm looking to use a reduced carb (135 grams) as a new lifestyle. Thanks again for your work!

BTW the chicken came first, the egg is a form of reproduction, so the chicken had to come first

Thank for for pointing out the absurd Tufts rating system. It’s obvious that there was a lot of big AG influence involved with the recommendations. You’re not alone with your views. Thanks!

A Walmart frozen food section has the placard "Healthy meals" over the door. I have to laugh and wonder, "What the heck is all the rest of the stuff in this store?" Just walk in the door of the store and you are faced with pallets of softdrinks, literally walls of chips brands and stacks and stacks of cookies and candy. And then to see all the people with carts full of chips and boxes of processed foods and numerous sixpacks of full-on softdrinks slung over the side ... well, is there any wonder there's a obesity problem? Keep up the wonderful work you're doing.
