I've lost almost 100 pounds these past 11 months by training and counting calories. Can't thank you enough Layne for all the knowledge you put in your content. Really changed my life.

I tracked my calories and lost 110lbs. During this process, I taught myself better habits and have kept my weight off for 5 years. At year 2, I began focusing on strength training and food quality and that's when I really started to love my body. Calorie counting was the catalyst to my own fitness journey. 😊

"When you stop the diet, the weight comes back." Yes, that is how it works. When you stop doing anything, you stop getting the benefits of that thing.

Call me crazy but if you understand the limitations of the tools you use for any task, you can make the most of those tools and the help they provide. I've been using an app to track energy balance for 2 years, pretty religiously and guess what?! When I eat more than I expend each day, I gain weight... Wow, novel idea, eh? And when I eat close to maintenance, my weight stays the same... ooh, magic. And if I'm more active than normal while eating at maintenance, I lose weight. I know, shocking.

The analogy of calories and budgeting, along with all the things that played into peoples budgets, and how it affects their bottom line, is probably the best explanation I’ve ever heard. I am going to be using that with my weight loss coaching clients. Thanks for what you do, Layne!

I'm currently counting calories to get my body fat down to a reasonable number. I think it works great. I eat whole, unprocessed foods, so I don't rely on labels. We have a pretty good idea how many calories are in a medium egg, 1 oz of tomatoes, a medium banana, etc. I plan my meals the day before and then use a food scale to stick to the portion sizes, and I don't cheat. It works damn well!

I actually watched the whole podcast and went in ready to burn it down. What he said is not really as inflammatory as the clip makes it sound

I use calorie counting for accountability and to ensure I'm supporting the effort I put into the gym with better macros - protein for hypertrophy, carbs for cardio/energy. Firm believer in how the mind comes into play with signals. This is where support in the home has helped the most - not buying tempting cheats, sticking to the plan, and finding activities that keep us occupied and minds off grazing through the kitchen.

Layne, been plant based for 12ish years now. Just want to say I appreciate you keeping it real. Using your Carbon app is making it super easy to eat the foods I want while hitting my protein targets and managing my body composition.

You should definitely get on that podcast. It used to be one I listened to until they started having these quacks on there. Great video as always Layne.

I watched Gilles videos and find them informative. The title of the videos are click baits. His message is that the calories availability of food is not the same depending how u process them. In fact, he quite clearly said all diets that can work is successful because the person sustain a calories deficit. While the title said calories don't count, his msg actually validates that it does count.

When I was closely tracking my caloric intake, I knew that there was no way I was being 100% accurate because the labels may not be correct, not everything has calorie information, I miss things, etc., but keeping track of my calories as best as I could and keeping my total caloric intake each day below a certain number definitely helped me get a lot leaner. Lately, I've not been tracking very closely and eating foods that I know are higher calorie and I've been gaining weight. There seems to be something to tracking calories to me, though I don't recommend it for everyone.
