Yas i do this too! A side note tho, biodegradable and compostable are actually not the same thing, the word “compostable” is regulated but “biodegradable” is not, so if you buy biodegradable bags, u may not be able to treat them like compost and end up creating more wastes (e.g. bury them in ur backyard, send them to local composter, etc.)

“Clean while you cook” is my moms best advice she’s given

I do this with just a veggie bag from the store or even a paper towel on the counter. Anything you can do to make your life a little easier

When I was a kid, I remember watching Rachael Ray. I was obsessed with cooking shows as a child. And she always talked about having a garbage bowl next to you, for your extra food scraps. It’s so much easier, such a great tip.

I just wanted to say that watching your videos is so oddly comforting, because you talk about food in a way that is natural and feels real.
I think in today’s age where everyone keeps “alienating” food and eating in general, your videos are refreshing and really authentic. Thank you so much :)

So recently I’ve started ordering from Hello Fresh and I will keep the paper bag on the counter to toss all the trash in. Then I just fold the bag and pitch it. Then it’s all contained and I haven’t made 65 thousand trips to the garbage. Love this tip!

Yaaaass girl! I grew up watching Rachael Ray and she always recommended having a GB (garbage bowl) while you prep and cook. So convenient.

Whenever my mom is prepping veggies for dinner I always scoop up her scraps and throw them away for her as she’s cooking 💗

Please keep making these videos, like other people say it's really helpful for the ADHD crowd like me esp ones that like cooking but find nutrition and diet stuff intimidating and hard sometimes 💜💜💜 also I had no idea they had biodegradable bags and now I must go find some

my dad (professionally trained chef) taught us to keep a bowl close for scraps, but also to tidy and clean as you go along! fill the sink with hot soapy water after you wash your ingredients and as you're finished with utensils, toss them in (and put knives beside the sink, if safe for your household). something needs to be brought to a boil? wipe down the counters! something's baking? wash the dishes you've made so far! there's always something to do in a kitchen, even if it's just collecting all the plastic and tossing it in the trash while something fries in a pan!

I love my tiny compost bin! I have a service that picks up my compost by bicycle weekly. And once a year, i get tons of free compost for my garden!

100% agree here, I usually use hello fresh to cheat 🙈 so I use the bag it comes with for scraps, but I will keep an old candle jar for other meals to dump scraps and toss all at once

I do this too. I use the plastic containers veggies like mushrooms come in, I leave it next to where I am chopping the veggies up and put all the scraps in it. Afterwards when I am done I empty it into my normal trash can. I reuse the little container for a while. It really helps and makes cooking easier!

I’ve been using a paper towel for peels and eggshells, because they always seem to cling to the surface you’re trying to clean. The rest of my family caught on too, never been prouder to have found a little trick. ☺️

And speaking of peels, I am now also obligated to give a shout out to my partner, who has decided we thoroughly wash and bake our peels into little chips.

During my cooking career, one difference between garbage cans is that in a professional kitchen, there are usually tons of garbage cans sitting around and you drag it to your station to easily toss stuff into. Or, you have a hotel pan sitting right there. You should never walk loose trash, or trash on your cutting board, to the can. At home we don't do this, we're more likely to have small scraps we can hold in our hand, but have a bin at hand is helpful.
