Herding dogs will actually herd anything if you let them. This includes other animals, little humans, stuffed animals, and so on. Plus, not all herding dogs are bred to herd sheep. Corgis were actually bred to herd cows as their low height makes them harder to be kicked or bucked. But if you have a herding dog, please exercise them. They have the need to herd, and it must be satiated.

Our dogs were bred to be farm dogs (running around the yard and keeping track of things, not herding) and whenever our oldest gets stressed she tries her best to herd everyone together. The amount of times she's woken me up at ungodly hours to get me downstairs...

My family had a border collie, and we humans were her sheep! She was so loving and concerned about us! She protected my children and followed them whenever they were outside. She also had an obsession with playing fetch. We would play fetch for hours when she was young! When she got tired of fetch, she would take her ball to a shady spot and rest. She did her job so well, and I have grieved her loss for the last 8 years. I can't bring myself to adopt another dog because she was so perfect that no other dog could possibly take her place.

So i have a sheepdog that only saw his first sheep when he was 3 and something, so a full adult. His first reaction was to run and hide, because sheep look weird, make weird noises, they smell differently to everything else, and overal are just not his thing. Like his tail was straight up in that warning/danger/ready for everything way and he moved around them in a nervous and twitchy manner because those creatures are not to be trusted. It was hillarious 😂

We've had herding dogs that will herd humans as soon as any human starts running, they see the running and immediately want to stop and redirect it. It's going in some circumstances, such as keeping kids from dangerous areas, but if the dog is trained it can be dangerous

There’s a lot of videos of herding dogs herding other animals, mostly children and babies learning to walk. Definitely can be nice having extra help that kids probably adore (big soft friend)

Herding dogs don't herd specifically sheep. They will attempt to herd anything: other dogs, cats, people, stuffed toys.

My dog was returned to the rescue from his first home for herding kids. He has now seen the mini sheep that live behind my parents house and he just growled at them 🤷🏼‍♀️
