InPresence 0024: Working With Psychics & Intuitives with Jeffrey Mishlove

InPresence host, Jeffrey Mishlove, PhD, is author of The Roots of Consciousness, Psi Development Systems, and The PK Man. Between 1986 and 2002 he hosted and co-produced the original Thinking Allowed public television series. He is the recipient of the only doctoral diploma in "parapsychology" ever awarded by an accredited university (University of California, Berkeley, 1980). For many years he served as president of the non-profit Intuition Network, an organization dedicated to creating a world in which all people were supported and encouraged in developing inner intuitive abilities.

Here he discusses some of the paradoxes involved in seeking or receiving help from those with psychic and intuitive gifts. He invokes the notion of "karma" to explain the unevenness of the results he has observed in his own life. He also describes several instances in which psychic guidance proved to be incredibly helpful. Nevertheless, he explains that he has inevitably been disappointed by psychic readings.

At a party one evening a guest was reading Tarot for the other guests at a party, and he did my very first reading. I wrote everything down that the cards predicted, all of the details seemed fantastic at the time. Within two years the predictions had all come to past. I might also add that not all of his predictions were good news, but the key words were that "I would get through it, and emerge a better person on the other side."

For those -like me- who do not have access to the talents like late Ms. Dryer, the only way to access the portal is to “work”.
It doesn’t matter what (i.e. painting, knife throwing, engineering, dancing etc.)
one must be consistently at it.
The walls will eventually loosen up cracking and an aperture to the portal will open up “unexpectedly” as I have experienced it.
Arthur M. Young is an example.

Thanks for another great talk. I've had several encounters with psychics and, in most cases, what I've been told has been interesting rather than life-changing as far as the 'advice' content was concerned. However, through personal experience, I am absolutely convinced that we can know things that we have not perceived through our five standard senses. I remember checking out and watching Thinking Allowed tapes at my university library- can't remember if they were vhs or betamax tapes. But I remember the Michael Talbot and Stanislav Grof interviews having a big impact on me. I wish the radio shows could be uploaded. I think parapsychology in the 70s must have been extremely exciting with people like Uri Geller and Matthew Manning around, and Jeffrey was right in the thick of it. Why can't we have another D.D. Home?

Thanks for that thought about what myth or mythological archetype might we be inspired by? I think everybody loves to read about themselves - their astrology sign, their personality type, etc. I wonder if deep down we are seeking more information about what archetype we might be modeled after, or what overarching archetype does our consciousness seem drawn toward emulating over and over.

I would dearly like to know if I am subconsciously following an archetypal model and bring that into my consciousness.

If we each discover our archetype, we may feel validated and love ourselves and no longer desire or envy what we don't have because we will see how gifted we already are in our own unique way. And I like that.
