InPresence 0034: Self-Responsibility with Jeffrey Mishlove

InPresence host, Jeffrey Mishlove, PhD, is author of The Roots of Consciousness, Psi Development Systems, and The PK Man. Between 1986 and 2002 he hosted and co-produced the original Thinking Allowed public television series. He is the recipient of the only doctoral diploma in "parapsychology" ever awarded by an accredited university (University of California, Berkeley, 1980). For many years he served as president of the non-profit Intuition Network, an organization dedicated to creating a world in which all people were supported and encouraged in developing inner intuitive abilities.

Here he reviews the concept of unconditional self-love and shows that warm, positive regard for all other people is a corollary. In addition, taking complete responsibility for all of one's actions is also a corollary of unconditional self-love. Furthermore, this means allowing all other adults the same right -- to be completely responsibility for their own actions. Jeffrey then explains how this view is consistent with feminism and why he believes that adults should neither dominate nor be dominated by other adults.

Stating affirmations similar to these really helped creat a shift in me. Taking responsibility for my actions and holding a positive dialogue within myself makes room for change. It feels like pure magic! Thank you once again dear Jeffrey!

A great topic in today's trend towards Nationalism, Racism, and Populism.

I am reminded again of your interviews with Dr. Riane Eisler, another wise & visionary scholar, whose book "The Chalice & the Blade" explores Domination v. Partnership thinking in human history. Thank you for raising the essential question of our day; can we shift from patriarchy to partnership so as to move away from war toward peace? Taking responsibility for our role in this inner/outer movement is what #metoo is all about. Blessings!

It appears from the comments so far that some listeners don't believe in the inherent goodness of men. I do.

In a bold contrast with feminism, I see *femininity* nurturing; it triggers creating art in my mind. Music, Paintings, Literature, structures, inventions.
But, to me, feminism sound like a bitter political campaign, and carries hostility. (like a fight in a boxing ring)
Dr. Mishlove, I wish you would offer an accurate definition of feminism (your definition). Thank you.

We have not always been so patriarchal, so true, too many anthropological studies show this to be the case. It seems early on our ancestors understood clearly the importance of women amongst the clans, the tribes, too many studies show this. Yes there were conflicts and even some warfare in our prehistory and nany of indigenous tribes still here, evidence seems to show but these were rare and much more benign in nature, when compared to current or recent times. Great talk, thank you!

The great stone gates of tradition stand watch over the entrance to a very subtle path: Dominator vs. Developmental hierarchies; partnerships; equalities and inequalities; intention; responsibility to- and responsibility for oneself or other. Our political and economic trail has led us to the realization that self-responsibility is the means to achieve responsiveness. Humanism is more valuable than masculinism or feminism (in my opinion); but beyond humanist thinking and values still lie the realms of "all sentient beings", Nature, and maybe even "truth". Back to Self/Love as the fundamental Big Breath.
I have never personally found affirmations very effective. When I studied cognitive therapy, I quickly discovered that my self-talk was so subtle and entrenched that it would be better described as "self-feel", and the counter to negative self-feel is more like positive self-feel than positive self-talk. Maybe I am just more immune to talk because of a basic skeptical bias.

Kudos to you for being unapologetic about being a feminist. It's stunning to me that people confuse standing up for equal human rights with being "efeminated" or with promoting "efemination". And, as far as the importance of "testosterone" a.k.a the masculine energy, it is no more and no less important than the feminine energy. Considering that we, as a human race, have been living under the total domination of testosterone for thousands of years, it is time to shift into an opposite direction to achieve a healthy balance.

Jeffrey, I would agree with you about responsability, if you can garantee that I am myself 100%, but, with my experience in life, I can say that sometimes we are not 100% ourselves. You should consider "entanglement minds" and "spiritual projection" or "spiritual evocation", that are phenomenons that entangle people in psychic and spiritual way. One way to "measure" if we are we, is having real lucid dreams all nights. I am a sensitive person, so I can feel the "spiritual attacks" from psychic harassers, and they are sucking so much my energy, that even being a healthy person, I am having difficulties to be myself in my own dreams (yes, it is possible that psychic harassers "invade" the dream of the victim)... I did fight with all my forces, but in this time of lockdown, they did the "opportunity" to attack me alone many times... I am struggling to "bioenergetic survival"... Thus, I am not responsible about what other people do, even in my mind (psychic space). But I am persistent in trying to be myself, and in this objective, I can say that I am trying to be responsible about my multidimensional life, wich is very difficult in Brazil.

Law abiding: I know you mentioned earlier about social protests - so we need properly equitable laws - rather than laws made for potentially adverse power and control.

I think it'd be of benefit if people clarify what kind or wave of feminism they identify with because the idea of equality changes with each wave or type depending on the time period and people mistake one for another.

Dr. Marija Gimbutas wrote about how her peers destroyed her work on matriarchal societies, literally stealing from her archeological digs, back-filling her work before it could get anywhere, etc. Perhaps some psychopathic man decided that through blood sacrifice of animals he could approximate the psi powers that women experience during menstruation, thus forming patriarchal religion. He wouldn't have to actually have the psi power, he could just say, "The portents say we've got to annihilate the neighbor and take his dates and honey!" Seems likely to me.

If fertility goddess worship made for such a great culture, why did it end? And telling us people know that men and women were treated equally with equal rights during those times is complete bs, they have no way of knowing this. I suspect it's feminists making these specious claims. I worked in tech for over 20 years with women who often got jobs through affirmative action policies, they often weren't as good at their jobs as the men, they complained far more, they got injured far more, they took far more time off, and they got special treatment the whole time. Feminism may look good to you on paper but the reality is terrible. Women who have power love to abuse men, and justify doing so with any number of ridiculous rationalizations. I am now an Equalist, I look forward to the day when all people have equal rights and responsibilities. Feminists want more than equal rights without equal responsibilities. Look at all of the women issues Congressional lobby groups, there are dozens. Look for even one that is male oriented, you won't find one, unless it's gay or transgender related. Feminism is a very destructive force, the kind of social change explained very clearly in "Slouching Towards Gomorrah" by Bork.

Perhaps you will read this.
I have experience of living in both societies, a patriarchal society and a matriarchal society. Since i was born in a muslim family and because I have lived a part of my life with sanathans and other hinduistic tribes. In fact, perhaps Bangladesh is the most matriarchal country in the World with a female dictator.
Let me warn you, the transition from matriarchal to patriarchal is an evolutionary process, that the human mind evolved to patriarchal state. When people step back into a matriarchal system, there is extreme docility among men. Men become so docile that they don't even make the move to protect their own families when in danger. And of course the law does not protect, it only punishes. And this leads to an extreme increase in rape and sexual violence against women.

This also led to men being absolutely irresponsible of their fatherly duties often leaving women to fend for themselves with children. The collective consciousness does not promote matriarchy any more and as a result women suffer more if such a situation is to arise. The Aeon of Isis has ended, and promoting back-dated cultures will only bring us discomfort as a species.
