As a psychiatrist, I agree with Mr. Grannon’s assessment. I loved “early” period of J. Peterson, when he spoke mostly about psychology. But now, listening to him, I am at loss, why so many people admire him so much, almost like as a cult leader. His opinions outside of psychology are, in my view, not-informed or ill informed, but he offers them (unsolicited) in a very grandiose and arrogant manner; his speech is circumstantial at best, but most of the times tangential, reaching the level of “world salad” indeed. The only rational explanation for his popularity I can come up with, is him getting popular with psychology lectures, and some (most?) of his so acquired fans, have continued to blindly follow him. I suspect, his ideas helped many marginalised people to regain their lives, thus becoming a kind of a “saviour” figure, who cannot do/say wrong. Sadly, it reminds me the art by Pieter Bruegel “The Blind Leads the Blind”
Edit (addition): Thank you for the great podcast

I love Richard Grannon. I’m grateful to him. Ten years ago he absolutely saved me by teaching me about psychopathic personalities which allowed me to free myself from a relationship that was quickly killing me.

I'm a woman in my thirties and his book pulled me through the darkest year of my life and I give him credit for still being alive for my son.

So glad to hear this. I agree with you. Peterson has become too opinionated and arrogant. He talks down to people these days.

“He was trying to impress him”. Spot on. And I’ve watched and enjoyed quite a few JP videos.

Richard Grannan was the first person I found when I googled it bunch of odd symptoms about my partner. Personality traits that really threw me into emotional chaos.
I took one of his courses and my whole life is completely different. It took a lot of hard work on my behalf, I had to learn boundaries and go deep inside to find out what was so wounded in me, that I allowed these narcissistic personality types into my life. It wasn't easy, but it was worth it. I love seeing him on your channel.
Thank you, Andrew.

Have an ex and daughter who are classic cases of NPD. I’ve never seen a hint of it in Jordan Peterson. He talks the way he does because of his background and education. He’s often self deprecating and has declared when he was wrong. That is NOT a narcissist. Ever. I’ve never him demean anyone even when he is being demeaned.

His "12 Rules for Life" says to leave babies to cry until they stop to learn to emotionally regulate themselves, this is child abuse. A child needs connection to a loving care giver to learn to emotionally regulate themselves as they grow, neglect won't teach that, if it did society would be in a better place then currently. I hope parents don't take his advice to heart.

I've been married 20 years with one child. I just discovered my husband has narsasistic behavior patterns. It's empowering and scary. Loving your content on narsasism.✌🌻

The arrogance on both of their parts, and the clear envy by the "expert" is a little too viscous to wade through, but part of their criticism isn't necessarily misplaced, but rather, misunderstood.

I struggle with using uncommon words to describe my point of view, or get my point across. I do this because I think those less common words do a better job of describing or explaining things, and it's more of a reflection of how my brain is processing what I'm trying to say. It comes off pompous and pretentious, despite my intention.

I think Jordan suffers from this on a much larger scale because he is so incredibly learned and well read. If you start reading a lot of 18/19th century literature, you'll notice yourself using words you wouldn't have otherwise used. Not to show off, but because it burns itself into your lexicon.

Jordan suffers from not being able to dumb down his dialogue to make it consumable for the laymen.

Oh man, that Peterson Dawkins interview .. yeah that dude was manic, Dawkins was very kind I was surprised. Peterson was very proud of that interview and refers back to it often when he was "chatting with Richard Dawkins" there was no "with" it was AT. Just a bombardment of words. After about 5 words of what you quoted, I knew it was from Peterson's "chat" with Richard Dawkins.

I had been a daily polidrug abuser for years and now only very occasional use when in the city. I live happily on my own continuously in 4 outback places mainly in the desert, drug free for the last 4 years, pre pandemic. this has been and is my rehab.
JP helped save my life. I enjoy listening to Richard and will now explore Mr Gold. Most if us have lied about our drug use : it's what we do with shame.

Jordan was a trojan horse he looked impressive and we allowed him into the human mind fortress after we felt at ease all his crazy agendas came to the fore

I like JP on psychology. But, I find it insane that he has now assigned himself as an expert on things way outside of his domain. Imagine what we would think if some climate scientist decided he was an expert on Jungian therapy and decided to start making videos like, "Message to therapists", we would rightly laugh. But with JP....everything is allowed.

First of all, I love your impression of him! My thoughts on Jordan Peterson...I used to watch some of his older videos and found them interesting, albeit somewhat longwinded. Now...I can barely handle more than a few moments of him before I flee.

The person who is the biggest user of word salad and is an extremely narcissistic person while denying it is Sam Harris. Now Sam Harris is losing his followers to Jordan Peterson.
