Back arthritis is often seen as a doomsday diagnosis by people and their doctors. Doctors often tell their patients that they’ll “eventually need surgery”, and “it’s just a matter of time” because it’s an “age-related problem.”

Once healthcare providers show their patients the x-rays or MRIs of the their lower backs and tell them they have things like, “facet arthropathy,” “lumbar osteoarthritis,” “facet arthritis” or “facet osteoarthritis” (these are all medical terms used for back arthritis) they don’t have much to offer to fix this. Thank you for your video! I am 51 and have been diagnosed with severe osteoarthritis in my L4 & L5 as well as a bulged disc. I have intense pain and tightness in my left hip and find standing for extended periods of time difficult. I was seeing a physio who had me doing knee to chest stretches, side to side bent knee stretches and standing upward stretches, all of which was causing me more pain. My mum has been telling me to do planks to strengthen my core muscles but I didn’t feel any of this was helping. Thank you for explaining the mechanics of the lumbar spine and giving me simple exercises that will actually help my condition.

Best advice I have found on YouTube for low back osteoarthritis! Thanks! I have long term chronic back & hip pain, severe arthritis, scoliosis, spondylosis, worsening stenosis, bone spurs & kyphosis. Inherited some issues & early years in poverty without proper nutrition are factors. I teach yoga & Pilates for many years & have kept my pain manageable until the last 6 months, your instructions are very enlightening. I thought focus on back muscle strength was good, bit with all the arthritis it was too much.

Well I just found your page and I've been doing the stretches for about 5 days now. And wow what a difference. I'm not giving up my golf game. I know that probably makes you cringe but it has made a significant impact. I still hurt but it's manageable now

My physical therapist had me do this standing up, but doing the tilt while bending my knees. The point is to tilt your pelvis without using my thighs or butt muscles. It took weeks to barely do it. Then I had to do it standing, then do it while walking, and finally do it while doing lunges. I was doing this to help with my pelvic adhesions that tightened up my core. It really helped with pain and flexibility.
