If you're trying to lose weight the last thing you want to do is mess it up first thing in the morning. And unfortunately there's no shortage of wrong information out there on a range of morning topics like what to eat to speed up your metabolism, or whether a mandatory breakfast is required, or if you should workout on an empty stomach every morning. With that said it's easy to understand why you're probably making at least a couple mistakes every morning that may be stopping you from losing weight. So today I want to give you a definitive list of 10 morning habits that are preventing weight loss. By learning what these are & by making some easy changes to your morning routine you can lose weight faster with less road bumps along your way. And I want to start with one of the most obvious that many of you probably already know..eating traditional breakfast foods in the morning is a sure fire way to gain weight instead of losing it. What do I mean by traditional breakfast foods...I"m talking about things like cereal, bagels, pop tarts, pancakes, waffles, and muffins. These foods are all very high in either refined flour, sugar, or both. Not only is a diet high in refined flour & sugar linked to obesity it's also linked to insulin resistance & diabetes. When you spike your blood sugar & insulin levels every morning with foods like this you make weight loss virtually impossible. Now I'm not saying you can't eat carbs for breakfast. You can definitely do that, but stick to carb sources that are not processed and come from single ingredient foods. Things like oatmeal, Ezekiel bread, and fruit will serve you much better. You'll get fuller faster from the high fiber content of these real foods, you won't have such a dramatic spike in insulin levels, and you won't feel the desire to eat more. And that's actually leads right to another morning habit that prevents weight loss. I'm talking about impulse eating and this is a habit that's linked directly to eating processed and refined foods. When you eat foods like the traditional breakfast foods that we just talked about as well as other foods that contain High fructose corn syrup, artificial flavors, additives, sugar and flavor enhancers they all Trick your brain and actually become addicting. These artificial flavors and excessive amounts of sugar get your taste buds used to a crazy amount of stimulation. And then with real food like fruit and cinammon flavored oatmeal it becomes impossible to match the dopamine release you get from the unnatrual sources that are full of added sugar. Also like I already said these processed foods will spike your blood sugar temporarily only to be followed by a crash. When your blood sugar comes crashing back down you're going to feel really hungry for more of the same bad foods that got you into trouble to begin with. This vicious cycle creates a full day of impulse eating led by the reward center of your brain seeking its fix...ultimately making you even more hooked on junk & processed foods. Luckily you can reset your pallate by staying away from these addicting ingredients for a consistent period of time. Start by concentrating on staying away from these foods for 3 days. Just after 3 days you will appreciate real healthy food much more & after a few weeks your desire for bad food will diminish significantly. The next morning habit that you want to avoid is force feeding yourself breakfast. It seems like most trainers, nutritionists, & most people in general believe that one of the worst things you can do for weight loss is skip breakfast. This is based on the idea that breakfast is the most important meal of the day & without it you delay "starting your metabolism" & you potentially risk entering the dreaded "starvation mode" Some people believe so strongly in...

According to the research weighing yourself, every day can actually be very beneficial. But don't get stuck on your daily weight fluctuations. Instead, take a weekly average and compare it to the prior week. This has been shown to be the best way to ensure that you're moving in the right direction.

Since about mid March, I have safely lost 20 pounds so far and here is what I eat for breakfast most mornings:
Step 1) Wake up and drink 2 cups of water
Step 2) Eat 1/2 cup (dry) oatmeal with cinnamon and 1/2 cup berries
Step 3) Eat 3 to 4 whole skillet 'fried' eggs. Use a light non-stick spray to coat the pan. Add ground black pepper to eggs for taste, but NO salt.
Step 4) Eat 1 medium banana
Step 5) Take a men's multi-vutamin (currently taking the Kirtland brand I buy at Costco)

For my other meals I will do my best to eat quality lean proteins, veggies (salads), some fruit, Greek (low sugar) yogurt, 1 to 2 slices max healthy whole grain bread, 1 cup cottage cheese, 3 oz. can tuna (water packed), triscuits crackers (excellent with tuna)
I occasionally will eat: 1 to 2 cups of pasta with marina sauce, a slice or two of cheese, a fruit popsicle, 1 to 2 cups of milk (max), a healthier cereal such as a serving or two of granola, raisin bran, special K
I Absolutely Avoid: Soda pop, juices (except for V8 veggie or V8 fruit blend [no sugar added] juices), donuts, cinnamon rolls, cookies, cake, pie, muffins, bagels, rolls, ice cream, any sort of candy or candy bar.
The only exception to this rule is when I'm celebrating someone's birthday and I will have a small piece of cake or ice cream.
When eating out I will always order a grilled or baked version of fish, but no creamy sauces. If they put on a creamy sauce, I scrape it off.

I exercise 2 days in a row, take an active recovery day, and then repeat the cycle....2 days on, 1 day off. In a couple of weeks I will be changing over to 3 days on, 1 day off, repeat.
Here's how my schedule looks:
Day 1: Strength training: Chest and Back
Day 2: Steady State Cardio
Day 3: Active Recovery
Day 4: Shoulders and Arms
Day 5: HIIT Cardio 15 to 20 minutes
Day 6: Active Recovery
Day 7: Legs and Back
Day 8: Steady State Cardio 45 minutes
Day 9: Active Recovery
[Repeat above cycle]
For each workout I am currently doing the P90X workouts (except for the HIIT)

Other info about my lifestyle habits:
>I dont go crazy on the water drinking, but I bring a large water thermos type bottle of water to work every morning and try to finish that by the end of my shift, fill it up before I leave work and drink a little of it on my 20 minute commute home to hydrate before my 6 p.m. workout.
During my workout I will drink about 16 ounces.
After my workout and before bed I will drink another 16 ounces.

>I work a desk job, so my only real calorie expenditure comes from my workouts and Saturday morning yard work (3 to 4 hours).
>I am a male over 40 years of age
>At the start of my journey I was at 225 pounds (heaviest I've ever been)....I'm currently at 205 lbs, so I've lost 20 pounds, and now have just 20 more to go to get to my desired lean body mass based on my medium skeletal frame size, age, and height of 6 feet.
>I do all my workouts at home. The only fitness equipment I use is a 30 lb.(per arm) dumbbell set, a bench or chair, and a pull-up bar.
>The only supplementation I take is a men's multivitamin in the morning, 250 milligrams of Chelate Magnesium at night, and occasionally half of a Zinc pill (15 mg I think). I may start adding protein powder to my diet, once I start my 3 days on, 1 off regimen.

Most Importantly:
I don't publish YouTube videos and I'm not trying to sell you anything at all. I just hope that the info I shared above will help someone who takes the time to read it. I hate being fat, but I love helping other people.

Message me if you have any questions and I will do my best to answer in a timely manner.

Working out in the morning is AWESOME!!! I used to love having an early workout when I was a college student. It's only "hard" until you get your foot out the door, and afterwards you'll feel like a winner. Plus, the mentioned forward momentum will empower you throughout the whole day. It's just amazing.

Another good stress reliever for me is quick journaling. Allowing some of those thoughts and worries to be "dumped, " has been a game changer for me.

I love this video- especially how you debunked myths that I’ve been trying to tell people about for ages! I’ve always said you’re better off eating no breakfast at all than an unhealthy one x

oatmeal, 100% dark cocoa powder, strawberries, cinnamon, nutmeg. That's an excellent breakfast. Add a hardboiled egg for more protein.
