One idli averages to about 40 to 50 calories, so even if you eat 5, you will eat only around 250 calories. Moreover its high time we stop looking at food just from a caloric point of view. Idlies are fermented food, they contain good bacteria and the urad dal in them provides good protein.

Although I also follow a diet but I never focus on calories I prefer to rather increase the physical activity and I still have a good physic those who follow the diet strictly and stay in calorie deficit by managing the calorie intake hats off to them

The number of calories in an idli depends on its size:
Small (30 grams): 61 calories
Medium (40 grams): 81 calories
Large (50 grams): 102 calories
They are also good sources of magnesium, selenium, manganese, and pantothenic acid. Idlis are a steamed dish making them low in fat.

I am vegetarian I can't eat eggs.

DONT WORRY GUYS... u can eat 5-7 idlies with good amount of sambar and chutney... Just make sure u do have a basic athletic/workout routine... having a healthy appetite gets u be more energetic and fulfilled for long run... u just need some sort of athletic routine...

Calorie intake isn't required unless you're doing a crash dieting like lose 10kg in a month types. Normally you should eat 0.8-1g/kg of your body weight protein to help your body keep itself into self-repairing mode, and not gaining excess fat. Add lots of fibre in the diet by adding loads of salads, some grains, veggies and lentils. Restrict carbs to optimum levels only. It's the excess carb which ultimately leads to diabetes and not the sugar alone.

1 rice idli has approx 60 calories... so 4 idlies have 240 calories ... so u mean 1 bowl sambar + 1 chutni plate has 560 calories .. good gracious

Idly has no enough protein, fat or fiber. Calories ok but high carbs, digest very quickly. That's why Idly is Not a complete breakfast. Protein in idly also very less. In sambar also very very less dal per bowl, because sambar has more water than dal.

So for a complete breakfast add more fresh coconut chutney than sambar. Coconut has good fiber, fat. If sambar has more vegetables then good

Add egg to breakfast is best plan
