I love WSS 61, it's one of my favourite movies of all time in my mind i consider it a masterpiece. As great as I thought 61 was I didn't appreciate just how good it is until I saw WSS 21. The Overture, The Prologue, Dance at the Gym, Gee Oficer Krupkee, Cool and Somewhere are in different league by comparison. The Prologue is one of the best opening scenes in American cinematic history. The Dance at the Gym, Mambo between the gangs and the duel between the Riff & Grazi vs Anita & Bernardo is out of this world. The irony is WSS 21 is a really good film with excellent performances and I have the Blu Ray but it's not in same realm as 61.

WOW! 64 years later, a bit dated, but what a scene! I saw the film when I was 11. I had never heard of Puerto Ricans, or why they should be hated. That led to long conversations with my parents at the dawn of the civil rights era. Personally, I owe a lot to this film. Heaven knows, they don't make 'em the way they used to.
