People forget how extremely difficult it is to perform this song. Especially at the beginning of the play. the singer, and the band! Going between 3/4 time and 2/4 at every turn at a splitting tempo. Extreme syncopation, never stopping; one missed measure and the timing gets distorted. Behind this performance is hours tough practice. Bravo for making it look oh so easy. How Bernstein conceived this is fantastic beyond measure.

My son was Tony in West Side Story in high school. This song has been my favorite since childhood, and hearing him sing it was joy. And when he learned he was going to have a son of his own, he sang this song for his wife and me. I love this so much.
