I love this number, because of the way the five parts are blended together at the end, but also the irony. Tony, Maria and Anita are all eagerly anticipating "tonight"- and when tonight comes they don't like it at all. And nobody "had their day". True, the Jets did "watch Bernardo drop", but not in the way they intended.

I played A-Rab in 1989 in the 6th Grade and I have NEVER forgotten the score. This was my favorite musical number in the show ("America" was my next favorite even though my character wasn't in that one)!!! 34 years ago and I still remember all my musical parts and a lot of my dialogue. That's how good our Drama Instructor was. We only did Broadway productions for the school play every year. Peter Pan 5th Grade, West Side Story 6th Grade, A Raisin In The Sun 7th Grade and Little Shop 8th Grade (when I FINALLY won male lead...LOL). Thank you Ms. Rosalind Wiley for such a strong Theatre foundation!!!

I vaguely remember that when I saw WSS on the big screen in 1961 (my first movie house movie) that the ending of this magnificent 5 part tonight was sung on a screen split in 4 parts so we could see all parts at the same time. Did I dream this?
