8 Things You Should NEVER Do With Your Valve Index...

Today I'm going over some less commonly talked about VR Tips regarding preserving your Valve Index. Unfortunately the Index is riddled with hardware problems so keeping your hardware in good condition is key. This should be especially useful for anyone jumping from Oculus to Index.

My channel is about VR Content (obviously lol) I've covered many topics on this channel in the past such as PC Building, PC Gaming Knowledge, Gaming News. That can be CPM rates, Industry knowledge, Business knowledge, how to edit, how to build a gaming PC, budget or not. But VR is cooler so I'm probably gonna keep doing that.

I'm like the monkey you send into space for tests. I just come back with the results and give them to you for FREE.

Tldr:
1. Take off the front cover of the index to deal with overheating issues
2. Be mindful of when you turn your base stations on or off(make sure not to turn them on or off frequently)
3. Be careful when removing the face gasket, it can scratch the lenses if you do it too roughly
4. If your power supply is making weird noises from the headset, try upgrading it.
5. Map out your play space correctly so that you can avoid bumping any of your controllers on a wall(they are very fragile)
6. Be careful of the cable, it can break very easily.

I don’t have an index yet but I’m getting one pretty soon watching this so I don’t brake a thousand bucks worth of technology

I don't even own an index, yet I find this so entertaining. Curious. 🤔

Yo to anyone wondering, I'm fairly sure the front cover is to prevent dust getting in the headset, but to be removed when played to allow venting.

You can just put the stations in standby instead of sleep when closing steamvr through power management settings. Then it just shuts off the lasers instead of you killing power to them abruptly or stopping the spinning motor.

Thanks so much for this vid, I just received my index yesterday and have been aware of some of the long term issues of the headset but this has been the most comprehensive and to the point vid I’ve seen on the topic so far. The power supply issue is definitely something I didn’t expect so I’ve gone and ordered a new one as I’ve noticed the whining with my 750w psu.

Had my Index almost since they launched, and I can't help but feel that I must be much more careful with my expensive hardware than most people - probably true since practically everything I own is like the day I got it. Thankfully, I've never had any of these issues.

Just received and set mine up. Loving it. Thanks for the video, earned a sub! I haven’t heard any of this elsewhere and am well read.

Cables are a failure point in so many different consumer electronics these days I’ve kind of developed anxiety over storing charger cables and such for transport. In any mobile or laptop I’ve owned, that’s the first thing that broke, despite how careful I am with them.
The Oculus Rift cable, however, never got me worried because of how sturdy it felt. Gets me thinking why much more expensive headsets fail at that 🤔

Interesting video 🤔 I don't own an index, but it's nice to learn a bit more about other vr systems and their shortcomings

Huh... I use my Index at 120-144 FPS for hours at a time, full brightness and all... It never gets all that hot, just slightly warm.

I've never had any overheating issues, might be caused by using the headset on 144hz all the time as it is an overclock.
