So so powerful thank you so much Leighton & Seth. My husband has thrown the Calvanistic verses & interpretation at me for years. It’s been so hard for me to hang onto my faith with that understanding of God. It stopped me even reading the Bible as those verses & interpretation jumped out at me.
It was deadening & my husband wouldn’t even let our children sing “Jesus loves me” because he said God didn’t love them as they were little depraved sinners.
May God bless you both mightily.
My dad had been brought up in a Presbyterian church & as an adult left that church & the faith not to return. I had such an ache & burden for him. My husband said to me one day maybe God hasn’t chosen him.
It broke my heart.
About 4 weeks before my dad had a heart attack & died God awoke me at 4am & led me to write a letter to him. The Holy Spirit brought to my mind the story of the lost sheep.
I told my dad he was that lost sheep. I can say that my dad came to the Lord & as my children & I sat in Intensive Care before he passed & unconscious we had a joy & peace. It was so strange that we weren’t even sad but happy he was leaving pain & suffering to enter glory. We will see him again.
My husband never came to the hospital & sat with us around my dads bedside. That was kind of a blessing as he probably would have said my dad wasn’t really saved.
Again bless you both the joy of my faith has returned keep up this vital work 🙏

Man, this hits me hard, especially at the point when they were discussing the way that Calvinists look down on anyone who doesn’t hold to their Soteriology. My husband is a campus pastor at a multi site church and in a minority as a non Calvinists among pastors and elders, I think if they had know how extensively he wasn’t a Calvinist, he never would have been hired. Ironically, our lead pastor, though a Calvinist, preaches like an Arminian 90% of the time. I’m so grateful for Soteriology101, it has helped us feel sane.

I love how new believers in their naked zeal seem to naturally run with the idea that God truly loves everyone and desires for all to be saved. I think that speaks volumes.

29:50 AMEN! Dr. Flowers, that is one of the most profound statements and goals ever made. God IS Good/adjective, God IS Love/noun.
We should never accept a portrait of God which attributes to Him a nature which violates the very conscience God gave to man, being made in His own image. It seems to me Calvinists endeavors to foist upon God a nature that presumes He uses His power as they would if they had it.

God loves everyone and desires their salvation. He gives us the choice. That fits our daily reality and the Scriptures. Calvinism has got to go, it badly screws up our thinking about God and life in general.

As a nubile eager believer I attended Moody Bible. Had no idea what Calvinism was. Started asking questions and doing research. Was promptly kicked out by the head of the theology department. I'd be happy to share the story.

As much as Calvinists want to believe God runs a secret mickey mouse club for them, he doesn't. All are welcome to join the feast.

Great to see another fan of Nt Wright's excellent scholarship on the New testament and how we ought to think about books like Romans.

So I know that most calvinist will say that God doesn't cause evil but as believers we still sin. So I assume that they would say that God is not at work in us causing that sin/evil. So the questions is...does the Holy Spirit just weave in and out of us whenever it wants us to be allowed to sin or is there some other explanation? It just seems if we are true believers that it would be our free will that is contending with the Holy Spirit. Not a decree that we couldn't do otherwise?
