mine just charged when i connected to ps4
edit: since people keep replying even though its been months the thing with me was that my controller somehow stopped connecting to my ps4 then after a bunch of stuff i got a new controller and had to connect that using a different pairing method and yee, my ps4 was just a bit faulty or something nothing to do with the cable

you don't need to initialize the ps4.just update it by using a format disc, downloading the update from PlayStation.com, or using the internet (it told me which update version I needed). the reason I didn't initialize it is because it said it would delete all users

Omg. This just happened to my PS4. I got it 2 years ago, after having the SAME problem with my last ps4. I still had my previous "broken" ps4 just sitting in a closet, so I brought it back out and plugged it in!! I tried this on both of them, and VOILA!!! They BOTH work now!!! Subbed, liked, and commented!!! Thank you SO so much for being so helpful!!!
