Also needed: road rise to pedestrian walk rather than curb cuts.

Hold up, you’re telling me that for forty years I could have been making my own mini traffic circles with sandbags and flexi-posts?! Ain’t no way

We have these in Pittsburgh. They are great. We had an issue though with people speeding through them. They would just bump up over the curbs, they didn’t care at all. So they put the stop signs back. So we have both a mini round about and stop signs. It is working well now. It makes crossing the street easier because you only have to focus on two parts instead of the whole 4 way intersection. I think eventually when they normalize, we can remove the stop signs. But for now, drivers still need them to remember it’s not a raceway.

If only FIre Departments wouldn’t fight these at every step

To add to the "throughput" point: besides making biking and pedestrian traffic more accessible, these also speed up car traffic through the intersection as no one really ever needs to stop.

Also, you can can call these roundabouts. I find it less confusing because I think traffic circles I think intersections that are shaped in a circle form that may or may not be in one direction and may have more than 4 connections.
I am glad Canada calls these roundabouts at least.

We have a few of these in my town and for the most part they're fine, but the one right near my house was placed off-center in the intersection to accommodate an existing sewer entrance. The side where it's closer to the corners also has a light/electrical pole right on the corner. I've seen multiple larger cars/trucks not be able to make left hand turns or go straight across the skinnier side without going up on the center circle or having to do a three-point turn to avoid the pole. Placement in the intersection is really critical for these things when dealing with an existing intersection.

"mini traffic circles" are normal roundabouts to the rest of the world.

Chattanooga uses or at least they used to...use goats to take care of grass in some areas. And I am pretty sure an alligator was used at one time but I cant remember why. Thank you for making our city better!

Richmond, VA put in a ton of these and it's been great!

We have a few in Denver but the fire department keeps complaining about them because of their giant fire trucks.

nah you gotta rush to get into this first before that other fuck. also fun to see how fast you can run up on it rip the ebrake and and slide the ass end around one of these even in something fwd.

Good, good, good. Coming to a dead stop is hard on vehicles, wastes fuel and encourages unnecessary police traffic stops.

If the suburb is large enough, this would be an easy way to fix up the repetitive grid of single family homes for entire blocks.

Assuming i am even able to bike to work and there are reckless drivers around, these streets would enstill more confidence probably.

I’m on to you! The arrows on the roundabout were pointing left, your camera’s flipped

We have these in my neighborhood in Richmond VA. I'm a fan of larger roundabouts but don't care for these. I prefer 4-way stops to a small circle. In our neighborhood. which is FAR denser than the one shown in this video, lack of building setbacks and parked cars limit visibility at the corners. So you often have to come to complete stops at these small circle intersections anyway so I'd rather just have the stop signs...

I hate to argue with you, but this wouldn't work in Southwest Florida, and if you don't believe me, come stay a week with me. I have a fold-out you can sleep on.

Y'know, there's this intersetion in my hometown where someone put four traffic cones in such a way that you Have to go around them at like, a very slow speed (if you want to go around, and not through) and this video made me thibk that maybe their aim was this very thing. The cones are not in a circle formation, but they have the same effect as a traffic circle. Pretty smart 🫡
