As a Massage Therapist, I really liked how you used the gua sha technique to help unlock blood flow to that area. If those muscles are not used to responding then all that friction should help loosen uo his mid-back. Definitely a work in progress. A knot that big is going to take time to break up those myofascial adhesions and restrictions. Probably some scar tissue in there too. First time watching you and I desperately wanted to give this guy a deep tissue massage. He needs trigger point therapy. Poor thing. Thank you for helping him. Your insight into the real issue was eye opening.

Dr. Ed, I could literally see all the inflammation on the patients left side as you used your elbow, the right side not so much. It's definitely fascinating how the body functions. I appreciate all the knowledge you provide, big Thanks!!!

The client intake “talking” is most vital, I truly enjoy. As a massage therapist I greatly appreciate you and your work.

It’s so interesting that he closes his eyes during the therapy with the patient. 😊

So from what i know and what ive seen in this, i am assuming hes doing is rupturing a lot of seized up muscle fibers causing a lot of blood and fluid to go to the spot to repair it and remove the ruptured cells. Im sure if you lance it its just a giant chunky deep tissue blood blister. But in re-injuring it and encourageing movement of the area it will cause the repairs to be much less rigid.

The bubble is so big because with the vigorus minor stretching of what should be flexible but isnt there is A TON of pinpoint damage being done (good damage) otherwise its so stiff it would never move even with general streches and the rest of his back would become more flexible while the basically scar tissue would remain rigid.

He really needs a massage therapist more than a chiropractor but its doubtful a massage therapist would have fully comprehended what needed done like he did.

Just a personal note on a treatment that has worked really well for me breaking up knots. Even better that most massages I’ve had is Cupping. No bs, it helps knots. Sucks them up and holds the pinch for about ten minutes or so. And doesn’t hurt much Great videos btw.

You may have ankylosing spondylitis. Saw multiple specialists for about 2 years and doctors had no idea until i talked to my dad and he said he had experienced the same issues before he was diagnosed with AS which took 10 years for him. Changed my diet and im fine, no swollen mid back, no more popping my sternum in the morning, no more si joint pain and a lot more. Zero meds.

I really appreciate your knowledge and awareness of the body and how everything works together, compensates, etc. It's something I really don't see in enough doctors and has been a particular frustration to me when I've told them I have pain in one spot and they only xray or mri that area. In my opinion, to not also scan the surrounding and connecting areas is to do a great disservice. They know about referred pain, yet will not look elsewhere...

I used to have chronic pain in my back when I was in high school/early 20s. I went to PT and whatnot at first, but it was still an issue. Then, when I was about 23yo, I developed plantar fasciitis super suddenly and started wearing inserts to help with that. Then one day, I realized that pain that I used to have almost every day, hadn't happened in a while. It blew my mind that my feet could affect my back, but whether it be alignment or walking too harshly, it did.

I wish doctors would be more aware of these things... It's so hard to see yourself from the outside, so we rely on them to see what we can't. I'm currently focusing on muscle imbalances and misalignment in my own body, because like some of your patients, I'm convinced my current chronic pain is at least partially caused by it (since I've ruled out nerve damage and chronic illness).

Btw, I find it really difficult to work on my own back (for obvious reasons), do you have any suggestions when it comes to working on knots that are between the shoulder blades and mid back, etc? I have a medium sized foam ball that I use on the ground. I've gotten better at it, but it's awkward and my back can't really be relaxed when I'm using my arms to hold up my neck and hair, etc. I have a rubber pressure point foot massage ball that I've tried to use on the wall, but it moves around and is hard to control. Just don't really have someone else to help and can't afford massages, etc.

I’d like to see and hear about the patient after some days after the treatment. Has his symptoms improved? Thank you for the video!

How do you find a chiropractor that does this? Is it a specialty? The ones I’ve seen they spend like 5 minutes crack with table and that’s it. No massaging at all.
