8 Things You Should Never Put In The Microwave

Microwaves have become a big part of our lives and a kitchen essential. Knowing how to use it and what can go into it is important for safe and healthy-eating. There are certain items and products which are not meant to be put in the microwave and cause some serious damage. Here are 8 things you should avoid putting in the microwave.

1.Bread
Putting bread in the microwave will not only ruin your microwave but it will also ruin the bread. When you microwave bread, it tends to become moist and chewy to the point where it will be inedible. If this happens to you, just put the bread in the oven for a few-minutes to get the desired texture and appearance.

2.Eggs
Eggs are meant to be cooked on the stove. If you want to get hard-boiled-eggs, don't put it in the microwave. Putting eggs in the microwave will result in nothing short of an epic-mess. High-temperatures can cause eggs to sometimes explode.

3.Broccoli
Wait, what? In most households, broccoli takes a regular turn in the microwave, but, according to a 2003 study published in the Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, it really shouldn't. When compared with other popular cooking methods for broccoli, microwaving destroys far more of the good-for-you nutrients that you'd normally get from eating those tiny green-trees. Opt to gently steam your broccoli before eating it to keep all of those nutrients right where they belong.

4.Aluminum or Tin Foil
The insides of the microwave are made-up of metal which make it function like a mirror. The metal reflects radio-waves or microwaves. When aluminum or tin-foil are put into the microwave the waves are reflected off the item causing the foil to burn-fast and ignite.

5.Paper Bags
With the amount of heat expended inside the microwave, the paper bag will catch fire for sure. Not all paper-bags are made from the same material and the popcorn bag is very different from the brown-paper lunch-bag. The brown paper bag will catch fire while the popcorn-bag won't.

6.Styrofoam
Styrofoam does not belong in the microwave. The material is extremely difficult to biodegrade and when heated in the microwave, it begins to melt. This allows chemicals to be released into your food. If the contents get very-hot, it could even melt through the packaging.

7.Frozen Meat
Depending on the exact thickness of the meat makes it difficult to figure out how well heat distributes. Bacteria can spread when the heat is not properly distributed. One part of the meat will remain ice-cold while one part of it will cook. It is best to defrost the meat in the refrigerator instead of trying to defrost it in the microwave.

8.Water
Unless the water has another-way to defuse the energy, it will not just overheat but superheat. When water gets superheated, the water has not actually boiled, so it is very likely that once you add something to it, like a teabag, it will cause an upward-explosion.

You can cook broccoli in the microwave, just make sure you don't over cook it, if the broccoli still has a crunchy texture then you have done it right. Also the nutrients and that are better preserved using this method... FACTS

Click bait, while some information is correct there are others in this video that is COMPLETELY false. If you are watching this video take it with a grain of salt and a pound of common sense.

First off READ your owner manuals, each microwave is made slightly different. There is instructions on how to safely use this appliance.

Bread is really good in the microwave. I put a classic loaf rather than sliced and cook it around a minute. Also, you can probably add water to undo overcooking. However, I have no idea what they are talking about with it causing damage.

I've heated both eggs (for scrambled egg) and broccoli in the microwave before today.
For the broccoli, I cut it up, stick it in some water in a microwave dish, then heat it up for a certain length of time, and hey it's done. I think Cauliflower is similar too. So I would probably do the same.

Eggs are just 1 or 2 eggs and milk mixed together in an microwave appropriate dish and heat in the microwave as normal. I also do both green and baked beans in the microwave too. It's all fine there.

I sometimes bake bread rolls from scratch in a bowl in microvave also I usually cook eggs in microvave. I can make poached, boiled, scrambled eggs, omlette, tortilla, frittata, egg with rice and probably would cook more if not so lazy.

I think you need to up date this a bit. I often do poached eggs in a microwave, You have to be careful s they will explode. Fo a poach egg I heat a mug of water with a teasoon of vinegar. I heat the water a couple of minutes so egg takes lee time. I put egg in water less than one minute-beautiful poced egg

LoL "don't defrost meat" 🤦🏻‍♂️ I got an LG inverter microwave and one of its USP is how evenly it defrosts frozen meat/Chicken and it does do a darn good job. Totally agree with another comment here, "to be taken with some salt & a pound of common Sense" 👏🏼😆
