FDA approves Eli Lilly’s diabetes drug Mounjaro for obesity under new name, Zepbound. The US Food and Drug Administration approved the type 2 diabetes drug tirzepatide for use in chronic weight management Wednesday, making official the use of a medicine already widely prescribed off-label for weight loss. The drug, called Mounjaro for diabetes, will be called Zepbound for weight loss, according to a news release from the FDA. Made by Eli Lilly, it’s part of a new class of drugs that includes semaglutide, known as Ozempic for diabetes and Wegovy for weight loss, which have skyrocketed in popularity in recent years.

Zepbound was shown in clinical trials to yield more than 20% average weight loss on higher doses over 72 weeks, stronger results than seen with other approved medicines. The FDA cleared it for people with obesity or those characterized as overweight with at least one weight-related health condition, such as high blood pressure or heart disease, the same indication as for Wegovy. Like similar drugs, it’s taken as a shot patients give themselves once a week, and is recommended on top of a reduced calorie diet and increased exercise.

Tirzepatide allows me to make better choices with food. I can now eat unprocessed food, and can fast for 16 hrs a day. I have so much energy, I don't feel depressed anymore or easily fatigued. This medication enables me to take the path toward better health through lifestyle changes. I could never have done this without it! Thank god for very smart people for developing this drug.

Dr. Mike, You commented that there are only a few good companies that compound Tirzepatide. Can you share some company names that we could trust?

Zepbound has helped me lose 25lb within the last two months. I do weight training 2-3 times a week and eat a mostly protein diet.

I've lost 50+ lbs 5 times in my 6 decades, I keep it off for up to 5 years, then slowly gain it back. I took 5 the whole time and weaned off over five months I would however still like to take 2.5 every 15 days for maintenance. I'm going back to the doctor now that it's been approved for weight loss.

This is excellent information; thank you. I've just started Mounjaro with good results so far (at the lowest dose) and no side effects. One suggestion: I nearly didn't watch this video because the sensationalist title gives the impression it's going to be a rant against Mounjaro. Quite the contrary!

This was great for explaining how this works in people who are genuinely overweight or have diabetes. It totally has its place. But isn’t the recent issue that people who are not at all overweight, celebrities/influencers etc… are promoting it as something you can just casually do to get/stay super skinny. It is NOT that! That’s dangerous right?

I was on OZ for about 6 months and got off it due to digestive issues. I gained 10 lbs back. I was My MD switched me to MJ and the digestive issues has been tolerable. I don't know how long I want to be on it - definitely not indefinitely - but I'm also also scared of getting off it. I'll cross that road when I get there!

For me this has become a miracle drug for me. I have fought for over 30 years with my blood sugar and insulin insulin resistance. Taking a ton of insulin. I'm on 2/3 less insulin right now. One weekend my blood sugars are in range 85% of the time. The last 3 days my blood sugars have been in range 95% of the time. I've lost 12 lb in one week, so in my case I feel like it's a miracle drug, but I understand what you're trying to say. Thanks for the video

Thank you for this video. I've lost 80lbs over the past couple years (340 to 260+) but about 6 months ago found out I have osteoarthritis in my right knee. Unfortunately because of this I've not been able to be as active and hit a stall and even gained a bit back as I've had some depression due to my knee. I've been considering Mounjaro as my insurance covers it and I feel it can help me in many ways. My cholesterol is still high and I'm on multiple BP medicines. Prediabetic and slight sleep apnea. I feel it can help in all of those areas and also prevent further knee (and back as I have a herniated disc) damage in the long run. I was hesitant based on some articles I've read but your video has reassured me and I may ask my doctor for a prescription. I already meal prep and eat clean so I think I'd see success. Thanks again!!

What about the possibility of cancer from zepbound use? I have this stuff in my fridge now, but that possibility has made me very hesitant to use it

I've been on Mounjaro off and on because of the supply shortage. Last year, I lost 50lbs or 11% of my body weight of 435lbs. Last month, my doctor put me on Ozempic because of supply shortage but I had a really bad reaction to it and stopped taking it. I had really intense nausea. I am feeling better now but decided I would go back on Mounjaro at the starting amount of 2.5 and not my last amount before I stopped taking it of 12.5.

My only concern about going back on it is the mental health side effects that were not mentioned in the video. Besides depression, anxiety and insomnia, I suffer every Winter from S.A.D. This Winter was brutal due to the being more days of rain and overcast than in previous years. Could you do a video on the mental health side effects of Mounjaro? Thank you.

Was fine on mounjaro for months and blood sugar was great. GAS and heartburn became unbearable. And I would have those mounjaro days where I had NO energy, usually lasting 2 days.
