Mobility vs Flexibility?...

Good mobility training IS strength training…so we need strength training level intensity and focus. The difference between mobility and conventional strength training is the specificity of inputs. With mobility work we’re strengthening end-ranges of motion, and in the FRC/KINSTRETCH world we’re focusing more on our joints, as opposed to the muscle.

Look, there’s nothing wrong with passive stretching. In many of my KINSTRETCH classes we utilize a passive stretch in many different bases, but we also incorporate drills to strengthen that range of motion - this is absolutely key in developing functional mobility and resiliency. If you want to create more range of motion you can actively use (with strength/control), you have to strengthen that range of motion. You will not be able to develop strength and control over a range of motion by passively hanging out there.

If you’re not making any progress with your “mobility” training, it may be time to level up your understanding of good mobility training. The type of work I’m talking about isn’t easy. It takes hard work, focus, and consistency, but all great strength programs do.

I always prefered the terms active and passive range of motion, as they perfectly expalain the difference between those two. Since those are two sides of the same coin, so to speak.

Ok. I’m more than interested. I think this would benefit me as an older athlete

Does kinstrech then develop passive and then active ranges of motion at the same time?

I think of mobility as a joint capability, for example I have mobility to touch my knees on my chest. But I don't have flexibility (muscle "stretchability") to do it with straight knees.

...and I guess my strength on these end range of motion is even less than my flexibility :')
But I'm starting to work on that!

So yin yoga would not be that great because it focuses on just passive ROM?
