Plantar fasciitis occurs when the ligament that connects the heel bone to the toe, supporting the arch of the foot, gets irritated and inflamed. It is the most common cause of heel pain, affecting more than 2 million people every year.

In this video, Michigan Medicine's Dr. Christine Jarocki provides an overview of plantar fasciitis and discusses treatment options for plantar fasciitis.

Thank you soooo much. My son has this. I've had it in the past and my foot doctor told me the same thing. I will share this with my son.

One of the things that I’ve learn from my treatment is to use a tennis ball to roll it under your feet or even a lacrosse one (there’s more resistance on this one). It helps to break the inflamed fibers and speeds up the recovery process

I've been dealing with foot pain over a month now on both my feet. It started off with heel pain like you described, now it's gone. The pain is now around the arch of my foot and the ball of my foot where my toes are at. It's more worse on my left foot.

The mystery for me isn't what I can do to treat it, but what keeps causing it? I get flare ups. This time around I'm guessing my running shoes were worn out but man, it takes forever for it to heal. I feel like a crippled old woman. I go to stand up and can barely move.

My tips...are stretching see vid, wear compression half socks, do the water bottle thing, keep your calve muscles warm and wear proper shoes and eat right. I get out of bed into good sandals that support my foot and the heel pain is beaten immediately. As it's the mechanism of muscles around the lower leg...not just your foot that's out of sync I have found that wearing shorts keeps them cold but jog pants makes them warm. I have tried to eat food with less crap in generally and when it is bad rolling the foot on a bottle of ice relieves the pain. In summary I feel as total layman that it's treating the whole Lower leg that will beat the heel pain with massage to treat symptoms.

I found the cure for my plantar fascitis! I tried this stretching, cold bottle foot rolling, special socks, blah blah blah and none of it worked. What did work and it worked in only a few days. FOAM ROLLING my calf muscles!! I started doing this for a few minutes every day and after 2 days my pain was practically gone. I have continues to do this before any walks and the fascitis has not returned. Try it!

These stretches work in the short term, but in the long term, nothing changes.

LMAO @ 2:24 What you'll do is find a STABLE wall... Sorry, lady, but my walls aren't stable enough.

I had a partial tear in my anterior talofibular ligament that gave me pain in the back of my ankle. The doctor said it was achillis tendonitis .This was last november. Now i recently got plantar fascittis after doing speed work out for running acouple weeks ago.
The achillis tendonitis went away completely but now i have plantar fascittis, which is more painful and really annoying.

I had this for years, it was extremely painful. until i heard that walking on grass or sand would help. So i grabbed a bag of sandbox sand and i walked on the bag back from toe to arch everyday. Getting blood to all parts of my feet. I walked on grass barefooted everyday for at least 20 minutes a day. I also bought shoes that supported my arches.I really couldnt walk in the morning without lots of pain. It took about 30 minutes before i could walk without some pain. But you know what, it worked.Im happy to say im in no pain. Pain Free. You see are feet were never meant to walk on hard surfaces. In the old times people wore sandles and walked on sand and soft surfaces. Grass also is good to your feet. It allows blood to circulate through your feet. Walking on grass is like a spiritual feeling like we are one with our Creator. Jesus made are feet to be treated with care and less walking on pavement. Concrete and asphalt was the worst invention man ever came up. It reeks havoc on are whole skeletal system, back spine neck, you name it. Take the time to baby your feet everyday by walking on sand, grass and anything that doesn't put hard pressure on them . At least once a day. You will see a miracle happen before your eyes one day. Believe it.

Nice video: One question: I hear mostly about stretching the calf muscles for PF. Some videos talk about stretching the toes, esp big toe. Is this less important than stretching the calf? Sometimes my toe tendons hurt when I try to stretch them. Thanks much, Toney

I am a warehouse worker. I have some cheap Walmart shoes, and thought it would be a good idea to put arch support insoles in my shoes. I don't have flat feet. I just figured it couldn't hurt. Well, it did hurt. My heels are killing me. I don't understand why or how. But now I have debilitating heel pain to deal with. Prior to this, I did not have any foot pain. I just wanted to put an insole into my cheap Walmart shoes for added support.
