Great demo for intro to pipe welding with tig. No matter how good or how many years you have in the field you can always learn something

Want to thank you for these videos. I was practicing pipe the other day and people were giving me crap about doing it in 1/4s. I was doing 3:00-12:00. I feel better about learning watching your videos. Keep'em coming!

you should attach a mirror with some sort of go pro mounting equipment. hang a mirror on your chin part of mask instead of a camera that way the cameraman can angle up at your helmet/face area and zoom into the mirror for a POV shot. idk how it would work in practice but it was just a thought i had whilst watching. great job bud!

Thanks for the refresher. Question tho, why dont you slop out of the arc and post purge to stop crater cracks? Being a welder and NDT guy myself for the last 14 years most indications on pipe are at the stops and starts.

Not sure if that a 17 series but maybe would be a good buy to get some clear cups. Helps us the viewer see free hand as we can look through the cup. 😀 but great video anyways thank you Bob 💯

Thanks a lot from Italy Mr MOFFAT...I'm a italian welder and i'm glad to say that you are my welder mentor in the past years.
In Italy there isn't a lot of Welding schools, and for some reason the quality job I not appreciated, one of this is because there are lot of confusion. about the difference between a "welder" and a "blacksmith".But I try to change this though (in my city).
after this introduction I have a question...in my old company I made exhaust and water and oil collector for motogenerator an I weld a lot of alluminated steel (Mig, 0.40 solid wire ER70s-6, 75Ar/25Co2 and TIG, 308l filler rod...this is what my company requires)
their don't want to remove the aluminium layer on pipe...then the molten aluminium came into the puddle...and some weird things happen (it's look like a freezing effect, the bead build up in the centre and there isn't, for me a good fusion in the toe of the weld)
my question is exist some procedure( difference shielding gas, flux core wire)to obtain a good weld(the only thing I do is set the inductance low, to increase the droplet size, and to achieve the burn of the Aluminium layer ....the toe is acceptable but the visual quality of the weld is the worst I ever seen)With the TIG is different...dirty and burn, grey colour but te weld look like still acceptable.
thanks for Your help an greetings from Italy, Rome.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge, great teacher.
Can you recommend a power unit which can do mig, tig, stick, and plasma cutting?
Garage work nothing over
3/8" material. Thank you.

Great Video.
But I got one question, I have seen your weld turned a bit grey in the ends of the first two quarters. Does that grey colour, which means to me, that the weldpool was a bit too hot hurt any structural properties of the weld. I also have that problem quite often and I can only come by this with going some amps up and weld way quicker. I do not really know if that is a problem at all, seeing this at your welds.
If I get an answer, thanks very much, I really appreciate it :)

I'm looking for welding helmet, probably max around $200. Nothing too fancy, I need a reliable, and safe helmet. Any recommendations?
Bob: If you could do "top 10 welding helmet" kind of video, that might be interesting. Just compare some from ones you have/used.

Which do you prefer? Lay wire or key hole and dip for the root pass?
