We call this flipping the rod into the puddle.. it does give better control than just running over the rod ( which you still have to push into or pull out of the puddle once in a while..to get a perfect weld on the inside of the pipe..

I don't like how duplex welds. Watery and hazy. Feels like I'm having voids but X ray is good.

Is it recommended to feather the root with tig? Can't you just heat the end of the root and start going from there? I understand 6010.

Looks good. They allow you to dip the rod, suck back? Lay wire? Contamination if you accidentally pull rod from gas?

Man i tried this technique today, and its HARD.
Im pretty good with TIG, Mig and SMAW, but welding thick pipe is still extremely hard to do.
