This is one of our assignments in Basic Tig welding at the tech school, and imho, probaby the toughest of all of them. I've had issues with getting enough filler at the root, and it fails tensile test. Never considered adding filler from the back, that is awesome, can't wait to try it. Thank you Mr. Moffet!!!

That's actually a pretty cool way to feed the puddle on a test. Probably not all that helpful in most applications in the field but I can definitely see the utility for a root pass on a test. Thanks, Bob.

why do you prefer the larger gap? I prefer mine a little smaller than the rod, then i dont have to worry about my filler near as much and my root comes out way more consistent cause your not feeding and moving that wire around trying to get steady?
